About This Role:

Tria Federal (Tria) is seeking a talented Datacenter & Network Engineer. Tria Federal supports the Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics (DOL BLS). The primary role of this position is to provide comprehensive support for our Data Center facilities, ensuring optimal performance and organization. Onsite support is required for three data centers. Our customer's main data center is located at Equinix in Ashburn, Virginia, with two additional office data centers in Washington, D.C., and Suitland, Maryland.

Responsibilities:

Ensure compliance with all Data Center-related Service Level Agreements (SLAs)

Perform daily physical walkthroughs and check Data Center equipment such as servers, chassis, firewalls, switches, appliances, and storage devices to ensure they are functioning correctly.

Expertly rack and stack hardware in the racks, ensuring optimal space utilization and cable management.

Accurately add and configure new equipment in Data Center racks, following best practices and safety protocols.

Run and test copper and fiber optic cables, ensuring proper connectivity and performance.

Familiar with different types of network cables and their specific uses within the Data Center environment.

Escort visitors and vendors entering the Data Center, ensuring compliance with security protocols.

Access and configure Raritan or KVM switches to log onto Data Center equipment via a console connection for troubleshooting and maintenance.

Maintain an inventory of spare equipment such as QSFPs, memory, hard drives, and other critical spare parts.

Use MS Visio to create, compose, and update detailed rack elevation diagrams for accurate documentation and planning.

Prioritize and manage assignments using an internal proprietary ticketing system, ensuring timely resolution of tasks.

Support various Data Center-related projects, providing technical expertise and hands-on assistance as needed.

Troubleshoot network issues at OSI model layers 1 and 2, identifying and resolving connectivity problems.

Perform basic configurations on switches and routers to support network operations.

Monitor the Data Center using SolarWinds Network Management Server, ensuring all systems are operating efficiently.

Provide support for a production Data Center, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal performance.

Escalate Data Center-related issues and outages using an alert notification system, ensuring prompt resolution.

Maintain organization within the Data Center, ensuring a clean and efficient working environment.

Responsible for receiving and sending Data Center assets, ensuring accurate tracking and documentation.

Keep track of Data Center inventory, ensuring all equipment is accounted for and in good condition.

Ensure the safety of the Data Center, adhering to all safety protocols and guidelines.

Actively participate in projects requiring Data Center support, providing technical expertise and hands-on assistance.

Provide onsite hands-on support for vendors and other system administrators, ensuring smooth operations and collaboration.

Support hardware in the Data Center such as chassis, blade servers, storage equipment, firewalls, routers, and appliances.

Understand and implement best practices for maintaining IT Data Center facilities, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.

Occasionally, but not common, travel to other regional sites within the continental US may be required.

The "Need-to-Have" Skills & Qualifications:

Must have six (6) years of experience providing medium to large-sized Data Center facilities support and oversight.

Strong knowledge of racking and stacking hardware.

Familiarity with different types of network cables.

Proficiency in running and testing copper and fiber optic cables.

Experience with Raritan or KVM switches for local and remote console access.

Proficiency in using MS Visio for creating and updating rack elevation diagrams.

Ability to work on assignments based on priority using a proprietary ticketing system.

Strong troubleshooting network skills at OSI model layers 1 and 2.

Basic configuration skills for switches and routers.

Experience with SolarWinds Network Management Server.

Ability to work flexible shifts and provide weekend support as needed.

Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Experience with developing technical documentation pertaining to data center project planning.

Professional Certifications:

Cisco CCNA or similar; datacenter certs, etc.

Education:

Bachelor's degree or 6 years of relevant experience

Clearance:

Ability to obtain & maintain a Public Trust Clearance

Years of Professional Experience:

6+ years of experience

Physical Requirements:

Capability to spend extended duration standing and walking and have the ability to lift 50 lbs.
