Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton LLP, a global Am Law 50 firm, seeks a highly motivated, well-credentialed Assistant General Counsel to assist the firm’s Office of General Counsel (OGC) in executing core risk management and client intake functions.

This position can be based in any U.S. office. Our U.S. offices are: Century City, Downtown Los Angeles, Del Mar, Orange County, San Diego, Silicon Valley, San Francisco, Houston, Dallas, Washington DC, Chicago, and New York.

This position has a remote or hybrid work arrangement.

The Assistant General Counsel is a member of Sheppard Mullin’s Office of the General Counsel. This role works under the direction of the Senior Assistant General Counsel.

The primary focus of the Assistant General Counsel is to review, analyze and resolve conflicts of interest and support the intake function, including drafting waivers and implementing outside counsel guidelines. More broadly, the Assistant General Counsel supports the OGC in advising the firm’s attorneys on the rules of professional responsibility, ethics, risk management and other legal issues associated with the business and operations of the firm. The successful candidate will be meticulous, intellectually curious, have good knowledge of conflict rules, effective people skills and thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:Review, analyze, and resolve conflicts of interest.Support the intake function, including drafting waivers and implementing outside counsel guidelines.Support the OGC in advising the firm’s attorneys on the rules of professional responsibility, ethics, risk management, and other legal issues associated with the business and operations of the firm.Qualifications and ExperienceRequired Qualifications:

3+ years of legal ethics or law firm and conflicts analysis experience required. Be meticulous, intellectually curious, have good knowledge of conflict rules, effective people skills and thrive in a fast-paced environment.

EducationRequired:

Juris Doctor

License and CertificationRequired:

Licensed to practice law.

Computer/Software KnowledgeRequired:

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Work EnvironmentYou will be based in one of our local Sheppard Mullin offices but will be allowed to work from home.You are required to come into the office on an as-needed basis.After hours and weekend work will be required on occasion as the workload requires.Travel RequirementsPossibly up to 10%.

California: The salary range for this position is $175,000 to $230,000 per year.

New York: The pay range for this position is: $175,000 - $230,000 per year. Please note that the foregoing compensation information is a good-faith assessment associated with this position only and is provided pursuant to the New York City Salary Transparency Law.
