Position SummaryAs a Staff Engineer on the Payroll Integrations team, you will lead and deliver the next generation of payroll solutions for Walmart that ensure over 2 million Walmart associates receive seamless, accurate, on-time payments each time, every time. You will be a hands-on developer and lead and mentor junior engineers in a newly set up team - to simplify and disambiguate problems, collaborate with multiple partner teams, design & deliver highly available systems, and establish operational best practices, from the ground up.About TeamThe Enterprise People Technology team supports the successful deployment and adoption of new People technology across the enterprise. We strive to continuously improve people technology and products to help managers and associates so they can focus on what matters most - supporting our customers and members.What You'll DoCollaborate with cross-functional teams including business, product, and other software engineers to understand the business problem, review business requirements, draft technical requirements, scope, design, develop, test, and deploy services and systems.Collaborate with your team to perform design and code reviews, provide constructive feedback, and improve operational excellence to ensure high quality, high availability, scalable, and performant systems.Create and enhance large sized applications, services, or complex sets of components within a large application.Contribute to any layer of the stack, from back-end services and data to front-end applications when needed.What You'll BringAt least 6+ years of relevant industry experience in building highly available systems.Demonstrated end-to-end ownership from inception to deployment of complex projects in production.Effective problem-solving skills, ability to make design tradeoffs, balancing the long-term "big picture" and short-term implications of design decisions.Expertise in service-oriented architecture.Expertise with Relational and/or NoSQL Database.Experience with CI/CD and operational excellence best practices.Effective communication and collaboration skills, including consensus building, conflict resolution, influence, and persuasion skills.Mentoring/coaching junior engineers in technical problem-solving and career advancement.Familiarity with frontend technologies is a bonus.Minimum QualificationsOutlined below are the required minimum qualifications for this position:Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 4 years' experience in software engineering or related area.6 years' experience in software engineering or related area.Preferred QualificationsMaster's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related area and 2 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
