Research Professional 1- Multi-messenger Astronomy (Coughlin)

University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States, 55400

About the Job

The Coughlin group in Minnesota is a leading group in multi-messenger astronomy. The research would focus on searches for gravitational waves with the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-wave Observatory (LIGO), as well as optical counterparts with the Zwicky Transient Facility, a time-domain optical survey to study the transient night sky photometrically. Transient and variable optical sources are studied by utilizing high-cadence, ground-based cameras to point at objects identified by large scale time-domain surveys. This method has been used to study multi-messenger sources such as the optical counterparts of binary neutron-star mergers and white dwarf binaries. The post-baccalaureate researcher will participate in the study of these and other objects and also participate in the development of software to analyze current and forthcoming data.Job Duties
