Duty/Responsibility
Management of the
UNH
Manchester Machine Shop and instructional laboratory facilities serving the Engineering Technology Program, Applied Engineering and Sciences Department, and the larger academic community at the Manchester campus. This may include oversight of part time student assistants.
Fabrication of instruments and samples for research and instruction in the machine shop.
Training and supervision to students (primarily undergraduates) to fabricate their own instruments and samples.
Teach ET411 every Spring term.
Ensure proper condition of the machine shop and maintenance of the equipment and instruments.
Provide basic machine shop and safety instruction to a significant number of undergraduates that must fabricate objects to support attainment of educational outcome.
Provide oversight to students using the Machine Shop to ensure that they are safely and correctly operating the equipment.
Order supplies such as tooling and stock as required for departmental or student projects.
Coordinate and manage ordering of department supplies through the U-Shop system.
Fabricate mechanical components for scientific equipment using manual and numerically controlled milling machines, manual and numerically controlled lathes, manual surface grinder, standard drill press, band saws, and other metal fabrication equipment.
Assist in creating designs from verbal and conceptual descriptions.
Schedule regular training sessions.
Manage and arrange capstone course student team work sessions held in the machine shop space. Monitor student progress, assist students where appropriate, instruct and oversee students in proper safety practices when using lab equipment.
