Position Summary

The Wine Director position selects, requisitions, stores, sells, and serves wines in restaurant or dining room by performing the following duties.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

include:

Must be fully knowledgeable in all aspects of wine and beer service, including food pairings, wine/beer procurement, and cellar storage.

Responsible for ordering, maintenance, and creation of beer list.

Orders wine for both by the glass and bottle lists.

Maintain and update beer and liquor pricing in partnership with the hotel.

Maintain and execute bar inventory to ensure proper supply and limit shortages.

Maintain and update liquor lists and bar menus to ensure accuracy.

Entry and updating of EMC for beverage and food.

Responsible for ordering and stocking of bottled water, coffee, soda, and iced tea for the restaurant.

Responsible for the maintenance of iced tea, coffee, and soda machines.

Meets with winery representatives and tastes wines to select for wine list.

Responsible for stocking and organization of wine in the wine cellar.

Maintains wine list and recommends bottle or individual glass prices.

Discusses wines with patrons and assists patrons to make wine selection.

Opens wine bottle, tastes wine or offers taste to patron prior to serving, and serves wines to patrons.

Completes and submits beverage specification forms for the addition or cancellation of liquor and beer items.

Verifies accuracy of delivery through inspection.

Completes accurate and thorough monthly inventory of wine.

Updates and maintains accurate wine/liquor/beer lists on iPad (guest wine list).

Verifies the accuracy of invoices for products ordered and received for timely submission to Accounting.

Tracks wine inventory through accurate data entry into Binwise.

Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned. The employee is expected to work in other areas of the hotel when needed to assist operations to perform job duties not necessarily contained in this job description.

Qualifications and Skills

A candidate for this position must possess the following applicable knowledge, skills, and abilities and be able to demonstrate and provide applicable examples to support his/her competency:

Track record of delivering exceptional guest or client experience.

Strong communication skills.

Appropriate professional appearance and demeanor.

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage.

Valid Louisiana Responsible Vendor Server’s Permit required.

Education and/or Experience

Associate’s degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
