About the Position

As a leader in US A&H reinsurance market and with a newly expanded footprint, RenaissanceRe is in a unique position to leverage our global expertise to grow our team. We are seeking an experienced and collaborative professional to join our dynamic global team.

Reporting directly to the SVP, Global Head of A&H, the VP, A&H Underwriting, is responsible for the analysis, production, marketing, and underwriting of A&H reinsurance business in the US. In addition to a strong understanding of the US health insurance market, the ideal candidate will have direct insurance or reinsurance experience with a broad range of A&H products. Energized by the opportunity to help grow a business in an entrepreneurial environment, they will enjoy rolling up their sleeves across multiple dimensions, from day-to-day underwriting and client support to developing and cultivating client relationships to working with analytics partners on modelling and reporting. This individual will serve as an A&H subject matter expert both internally and externally and proactively explore ways to grow our business profitability.

The VP role is based in our midtown New York office and will be expected to travel primarily within the United States, with select travel to London.

Structure and underwrite A&H reinsurance treaties, with particular focus on US health and travel dealsDevelop and deepen new and existing client relationships reflective of our commitment to long-term partnerships and tailored solutions that evolve with our clients' needsAct as a resource on A&H market trends and the broader health insurance environment both internally and externally; serve as a subject matter expert for clients and staff on A&H productsCommunicate RenaissanceRe's underwriting approach effectively to both brokers and clientsSeek ways to leverage our entire platform by identifying creative and multifaceted solutionsEvaluate, challenge, communicate, and apply model results to underwriting disciplinePromote and strengthen the risk management culture through active use, development, and continuous improvement of proprietary and other risk modelling, data analysis, and reporting toolsOperate collaboratively in our integrated system, designed to break down silos to create effective partnerships across underwriting, technology, regional platforms, and corporate functionsMentor, train, and develop junior talentCandidate Qualifications:

At least 7+ years of relevant experience in underwriting, product development, and/or pricing, preferably at a US health insurer or A&H reinsurance companyDemonstrated expertise analyzing multiple classes of A&H exposure; experience with health insurance required, additional experience in travel, special risks and/or accident products preferredProven ability to manage and grow client relationships; listening skills and horsepower to identify and address risk needs of the highly regulated and continually evolving US health insurance marketKnowledge of the A&H underwriting process, including an understanding of client and intermediary relationships, and terms and conditions of A&H (re)insuranceTechnical acumen to navigate complex risk systems to support pricing and portfolio management functions; modelling and programming helpful but not requiredDeep understanding of policy forms, pricing schemes and the role and impact of actuarial, finance and claims in the underwriting processIntellectual curiosity, love for data, and drive for continuous developmentExcellent interpersonal, presentation, written, and verbal communications skills with ability to communicate professionally at all levels of the organization as well as externally with key clients, brokers, and vendorsA keen focus on profitability by matching desirable risk with the most efficient capitalUndergraduate degree or equivalent expected; MBA or similar post-graduate degree preferredLeadership Competencies & Values:

The full-time base salary range for this position is $180,000-$225,000 per year; base salary offered may vary based on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The position is eligible for bonus and a comprehensive benefits package. This information is provided per the New York City Human Rights Law and applies only to positions in New York City.
