Job Description

Under general supervision this position is responsible for performing skilled, technical work in residential and commercial electrical systems inspections to ensure compliance with city, state, and other applicable building codes.

**This position has been classified as a safety sensitive position and is subject to our drug testing policy to include pre-employment, random, reasonable suspicion and post-accident for the following prohibited substances: marijuana, amphetamines, opioids, phencyclidine (PCP), and cocaine, as well as any drug not approved for medical use by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration or the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.**

Typical Duties

Reviews commercial, industrial and residential electric plans and specifications to ensure compliance with all applicable codes, ordinances and regulations.Conducts commercial, industrial, and residential electrical inspections to ensure compliance with all applicable codes, ordinances, and regulations.Issue appropriate notices on structures which do not comply with applicable codes, regulations or ordinances.Conducts final inspection of facilities and related structures to ensure building is safe for occupancy. Inputs and maintains various inspection records.Ensures work is permitted and done by licensed contractors.Assists and participates in the execution of short and long-range plans.Coordinates activities with other departments and agencies as needed.Provides information and data for reports and maintains required departmental records.Responds to and resolves various complaints, issues, inquiries, and problems as authorized, and in accordance with established policies and procedures.Participates in procurement activities for supplies, services, equipment, and other items.Ensures effective and efficient use of budgeted funds, personnel, materials, facilities and time.Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

High School diploma or GEDFive (5) years' experience in inspection or construction of commercial, industrial, residential electrical installationsThree (3) years must be at a journeyman or foreman levelOr have an equivalent combination of education and experience that would likely produce the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.Must posses a current and valid Journeyman or higher certificationLicenses and Certificates:

Valid driver's license equivalent to a New Mexico Class D.State of New Mexico Electrical Inspector Certification within six months (180 days) from date of appointment).International Code Council (ICC) Electrical Inspector Certification within one (1) year from date of appointment.Must have a electrical Journeyman's or electrical contractor license.Physical Requirements:

Stand or sit for prolonged periods of time.Occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist.Lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight.Use repetitive hand movements, fine coordination and manual dexterity which permits the employee to operate standard office equipment and computer systems.Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing to permit the employee to discern verbal instructions, use a phone, and communicate with others and drive and operate motorized vehicles.Sufficient visual acuity which permits the employee to comprehend written work instructions and review, evaluate, and prepare a variety of written materials.Working Conditions:

Work typically performed outdoors with frequent travel to various sites and facilities.Regular attendance is an essential function of this job to ensure continuity of services.Occasional work beyond normal business hours.Required to work on slippery or uneven surfaces, airborne particles, potentially toxic and/or caustic chemicals, and extreme temperatures, electrical hazards and travel from site to site, work around traffic.Use of safety shoes, glasses and other equipment as neededPosition is subject to drug testing and regular driver's license monitoring in accordance with applicable State and Federal regulations and City of Clovis policies.
