PART TIME LABORER/PARKS MAINTENANCE
JOB DESCRIPTION
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
Performs routine manual labor and to perform related work as required.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Work is performed under the direction of a Department of Public Services or Director of Parks and Recreation assigned Supervisor(s), but may also receive direction from a Public Service Worker Group Leader.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:Opening and closing of restrooms at public parksCleaning and stocking of park restroomsOperation of a variety of power tools, including mowers, blowers, trimmers, etc.Performs ice and snow control activitiesKeeps streets, walkways, sidewalks, etc clear of debris, including the emptying of trash/recycling cans/binsLawn and landscape maintenance including cutting and edging grass, laying sod, raking leaves, planting, weeding, watering and care for trees, shrubs and flowersMaintains parks and playground facilitiesPerforms a variety of tasks as part of work crew.Participates in the clean up of work projectsRepair and maintain streets and sidewalks, street signs and markingsMaintains accurate work records, time sheets and other forms of dataThe

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
High School Graduate or G.E.D.Legally employable in the United States18 years of age or olderValid State of Michigan Drivers LicenseAbility to pass written examination, physical agility and skills test, physical with drug screen and fingerprint/criminal history/driving record checkSPECIFICATIONS: KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Ability to understand and follow both written and oral instructionsAbility to lift and carry a minimum of 50 pound loadsAbility to work outdoors in extreme temperaturesAbility to tolerate exposure to dust, grease, fuel, chemicals and lubricantsAbility to stoop, bend, climb trees, go into underground vaults and pits with restricted movementAbility to perform manual labor for extended periods of timeAbility to learn how to use equipment and tools
Minimum reasoning ability usually associated with this classification:Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form; to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in or from standardized situations.
Minimum Math ability usually associated with this classification:Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure; to perform the four operations with like or common decimal fractions.
Minimum Language ability usually associated with this classification:READ: Ability to read a variety of novels, and magazines; to read safety rules, instructions in the use and maintenance of shop tools and equipment, and methods and procedures.
WRITE: Ability to write reports and essays with proper format, punctuation, spelling, and grammar, using all parts of speech.
SPEAK: Ability to speak before individuals with poise, voice control, and confidence, using correct English and well modulated voice.

Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
