Description
The purpose of this classification is to perform infrastructure inspections to ensure compliance with permit requirements, ordinances, and federal and state regulations regarding construction of transportation projects. This is an entry-level technical position. Incumbents are expected to exercise independent judgement and initiative. Work is performed under general supervision of either the Construction Coordinator or Construction Project Manager. Tasks are received in general terms. Incumbents are given oral direction or graphic information such as blueprints, schematic drawings, layouts, or other visual aids when receiving assignments.
Examples of Duties
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.Completes heavy field work such as sampling, mapping, oversight of structural BMP installation, and assessing non-structural facility maintenance needs.Read and interpret plans, blueprints, or diagrams; Prepare clear, concise, and accurate oral and written reports; Updates project files and responds to customer/citizen concerns.Assists with the implementation and enforcement of federal and state regulations and County Codes.Inspects the dimensions, operations, and maintenance of facilities and other conveyances used in the construction of transportation projects; Advises engineers, developers, owners, and contractors of any problems or conflicts for corrections and develops corrective action plans.Assists the Construction Coordinator and/or Construction Project Manager in processing and issuing documentation on SPLOST projects.Performs other related duties as required.Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent with one year of roadway, storm drainage, land and construction surveying and erosion control construction experience required; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.Knowledge, Skill, Abilities/ Supplemental Information
Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license.Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities: Basic knowledge of construction practices; Knowledge of the principles and practices of engineering as applied to construction of site improvement projects; Knowledge of the principles, techniques, equipment, and products used in the control of erosion and sediment generated from construction sites; knowledge of basic typing and computer skills.Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all County or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.
