Description Position at Sumitomo Electric Wiring Systems, Inc. BASIC POSITION DUTIES: Manage the daily activities of a tool room while ensuring tool makers are being fully utilized to maximize tooling part output along with tooling part repairs. Will be managing tool design changes as directed by design group and tool design changes to improve tool structure problems. Must be able to provide continuous improvement for repetitive tool breakage using solid works and or AutoCAD, using new technology or latest tool steels. The person will be hands on with tool makers and will be able to provide daily guidance and assistance. Work daily with mold maintenance to evaluate and make the plan for getting injection mold and metal stamping tools back to mass production in the quickest and most efficient manner.Monitor and develop the most efficient use of tooling personally and equipment to maximize tooling output utilization. Tracking of toolroom machine utilization monthly will be required to show and present in management meetings.Toolroom layout, plan future machine requirements specified in yearly budget cycle, and maintain and budget needed toolmakers staff.Work with Design and internal or external Engineering to develop planning for tooling design changes.Ensure that hard copy paper tool drawings, electronic CAD files and existing spare parts are updated and to the correct design level changes.Work hands on with tooling machines and measurement equipment to improve methods and practices for toolmakers.Work with QA management, tooling maintenance, and other staff regarding production schedules, and other cost considerations (minimize downtime) to facilitate production schedules are met.Candidate must be experienced with tight tolerance machining in regards to CNC (machine centers, Wire EDM and Vertical EDM) and manual tooling equipment and capable of working side by side with tool makers.Responsible for developing countermeasures for mold tool issues such as repetitive broken pins, flash, gas marks, etc.Must understand Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, Power Point, Etc.Other duties as assigned.POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering; 5 years minimum experience in a tooling/engineering environment or 5 years' experience as a certified mold/die maker's journeyman with license. Experience with Wire EDM, Sinker EDM, Micro-Welding, Precision CNC machining and programming with MasterCAM. Must have knowledge/skills from working in a tool shop or relevant equivalent. Must have computer skills that include Microsoft Office programs such as Excel and Word. Must be available for international and domestic travel.
