Job Summary:
The Employee Relations specialist will provide independent guidance and expertise in dual areas of responsibility within the Human Resources Department. This position is responsible for managing and conducting all necessary employee investigations and processes that are related to employee concerns that may be considered time sensitive. This position is responsible for all facets of Labor Relations including organizational compliance with Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBA) and applicable employment law; participates and assists in negotiating the CBA and mutual agreements, directing the grievance process, and facilitating the Labor-Management Committees. Provides training, coaching, and consultation to managers, regarding supervision of bargaining members including effective supervisor-employee relationships, communication, corrective action, and terminations. Conducts worksite investigations, mediation, and conflict resolution.
Salary Range: 83k - $91k annually DOE
Duties and ResponsibilitiesResponsible for employee relations, including manager coaching and consultation regarding supervision, including corrective action up to and including terminationsConducts or arranges for worksite investigations, mediation, and conflict resolution as required in a timely and responsive mannerProvides guidance, and consultation to managers regarding compliance with CBA, employment law, and organizational policies and procedures related to employee rights and responsibilitiesLeads grievance procedures and as necessary works collectively with HRM/HRD for final resolutions.Assists in preparation for labor negotiationsEnsures and engages in proactive grievance avoidance practices such as training leaders on how to manage union workforce, understanding the CBA and focusing positive leadership practicesTracks data through the HRIS system and other sources to identify trends and makes recommendations to leadership on how to address them.Establish trust of management and union representatives by doing sites visits, roundtables, labor management committees, etc.Maintains document integrity and traceability by establishing and maintaining well-organized electronic filing systems and documentation.Leads by exampleResponds to employee violations of policies and assists to resolve conflict in the workplace, escalating these to the appropriate level as neededEnsures suspension and terminations are elevated for approval by HRD/HRM prior to delivery by leadershipProcesses involuntary termination paperwork and term alerts in a timely mannerFollows company departmental policies and standard operating proceduresEstablishes and maintains professional working relationshipsImplements processes for new union job descriptions and revised union job descriptions, with leadership collaboration and per CBAImplements annual union member wage scale increases and maintains union wages scalesSupports special projects and requests as required by HRD/HRM and Executive CommitteeOther duties as assigned and appropriate to the scope of this positionQualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education
Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent education and experienceHR Certification preferredExperience
Four years of HR Generalist experience preferredDirect experience with labor relations and collective bargaining agreements requiredThorough understanding and working knowledge of Federal and California State employment lawExperience in healthcare environment preferredExperience working in a multi-site organization preferredSHRM-CP, PHR preferredOr an equivalent combination of education and experience of the aboveKnowledge and Skills
Intermediate to advanced level proficiency in utilizing Microsoft Office applications including Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as HR information systemsAbility to maintain impeccable confidentiality about sensitive employee informationExcellent judgment and critical thinkingProven ability to lead by example and foster mentoring relationshipsExcellent communication and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to write clearly and persuasivelyDemonstrated commitment to working collaboratively as part of a team, with the skill to lead, influence and motivate othersExcellent organizational, time management, and follow-up skills; demonstrated ability to successfully handle multiple projects concurrentlyability to work independentlyDriver's license required; ability to travel to different local worksitesHas a depth of expertise and understanding of labor law, NLRB requirements, and applicable employment lawIn depth understanding of workplace investigation requirements.
