More Than Words (MTW) seeks a creative, highly motivated, and detail-oriented Retail & Events Coordinator to support our Boston store. This position provides a hands-on, real-world opportunity to apply business acumen in the daily operations and strategic growth of a nonprofit social enterprise. The Retail & Events Coordinator will support oversight of all aspects of the store business including maximizing profitability, training, inventory management, marketing, merchandising and events.
MTW is a nonprofit social enterprise that empowers youth, ages 16-24, who are in the foster care system, court involved, homeless, or out of school to take charge of their lives by taking charge of a business. MTW offers job training opportunities and transition support services to equip youth with first-hand experience working as a team to operate retail and online businesses and to develop the tools to enable them to make progress around education, employment and life goals.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Oversee Shifts in order to meet Financial Goals:
Oversee all safety, policies and procedures to open and/or close the store on specific days.Lead a shift of 1-2 youth to ensure success of all business activities: provide excellent customer service, execute short term and long-term store projects.Continually monitor and improve systems to meet revenue and receiving benchmarks for the store.Train Youth Employees:
Work alongside youth to provide ongoing training, feedback and support for youth to improve performanceHold youth employees accountable for all safety, policies and performance including attendance, punctuality, professionalism and efficiency with tasks on shift.Model best customer service practices for youth on shift.Staff Events:
Manage event set-up and clear, coordinate with client to execute event, and clean and re-set after event.Act as point of contact for client and vendor onsite visits.Coordinate with AD to ensure all necessary documents are on file.OUTLINES OF THE POSITION
Schedule includes both weekdays and weekends, including some evening shifts. Hours vary depending on the needs of the businessThe hourly rate for this position is $22.00 per hour, with a maximum of 29 hours per week.The Retail & Events Coordinator will report directly to the Associate Director of Events.This is a 6-month position, with the potential to renew for an additional 6 month period after evaluating at the end of the initial term.POSITION REQUIREMENTS
You must have a GED or High School DiplomaYou must be consistently moving towards educational outcomesYou must have transitioned from MTW at least 2 years prior to apply for this positionYou must be at least 21 years of ageCandidate must be able to regularly lift boxes weighing approximately 25 lbs.You must be able to follow through on commitmentsCovid-19 vaccination and booster or qualifying exemptionADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS & EXPECTATIONS
The Retail & Events Coordinator must be a high-energy person who enjoys teaching others, hitting goals, and working in a fast-paced environment.The ideal candidate will have at least 1+ years of retail experience and a proven ability to inspire and compel others to exceed expectationsS/he should have successful experience teaching, training or supervising new learners, and a talent for empowering and engaging others to work together to achieve goalsThe candidate should be able to provide great customer service and possess a technological aptitude, and have a desire to achieve business
