SUMMARY:
The Pre-Kindergarten (Pre-K) Director will assume overall responsibilities for the success of the Pre-K Program. The Pre-K Director will oversee the daily operations of the program and provide leadership in the areas of academic and non-academic development. They will be instrumental in the development of personnel to support the mission of the Pre-K Program. Additionally, the
Pre-K Director will support institutional structure, operating policies/procedures, and help to maintain sound financial practices. In the spirit of community building, the Pre-K Program Director will put in place processes where parents, administrators and teachers are free to exchange ideas, share concerns and feel welcomed and respected.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
AdministrationOversees daily operations at the Pre-K Center.Maintains institutional policies and procedures for the Pre-K Center.Ensures that the Pre-K Center and staff are in full compliance with early childhood governmental laws, regulations and requirements.Facilitates preparation and implementation of parent teacher communications and conferences.Serves as the liaison between the Pre-K Program and the Superintendent, Deputy Superintendent(s), and Central Office Supervisors.Assumes accountability for the Pre-K budget as deemed appropriate.Enrollment
Supports strategies to maintain existing students.Recruits students as necessary to fill vacant slots.Maintains a waiting list of potential students.Coordinates and executes the registration process for the Pre-K Program.Promotes a positive image of the school to existing and prospective families.Faculty
Supervises and evaluates all Pre-K Staff.Assists Pre-K Staff in setting annual professional development goals.Conducts frequent classroom observations and provides coaching to teachers as needed.Determines personnel needed at the Pre-K Center.Creates a work environment that encourages team building and staff collaboration.Plans and provides professional development opportunities and training.Mentors teachers in implementing curriculum and instruction.Assists Teachers in conducting parent conferences and writing reports as needed.Education
Provides a vision for continuous program improvement by remaining current on issues and trends in early childhood education.Guides faculty in achieving educational excellence.Oversees program evaluation and staff instruction.Collaborates with teachers to plan instructional activities and lessons.Conducts classroom visits and monitors student progress routinely.Provides leadership regarding special education needs.Maintains school discipline procedures in a consistent and respectful manner.Follows Board Policy for Decatur City Schools.Provides support for behavioral and learning issues in collaboration with teachers.NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Performs other duties as assigned or requested by the Superintendent, Deputy Superintendent(s), and/or Central Office Supervisors.TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
12Month ContractQUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTSEDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Bachelors (or Master's) Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field
REQUIREDFamiliarity with principles and practices of the Office of School Readiness (OSR)Minimum of (3) years teaching experience in early childhood educationAbility to work with children, parents and colleaguesLANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret teacher textbooks, general periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.Ability to write reports, correspondence, and procedure manuals.Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of students, parents, and the general public.Effective interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on oral and written communication and collaboration with a wide variety of people and groups, as well as government agencies.MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.REASONING ABILITY:Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.Demonstrate experience with and knowledge of crisis management policies and procedures.Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, law enforcement, parents and community/governmental agencies.Ability to carry out job responsibilities and handle sensitive information in a confidential manner.Proficient in handling problems, concerns and emotional distress with sensitivity and tact.CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS:
