What will you do?

Creating Strategic Business Development Plans:

Develop and regularly update an annual business development plan that aligns with overall business goals, reflecting progress and market changes.

Collaborate with senior management to integrate the business development plan into the company’s overarching business strategy.

Analyze the strengths and weaknesses of key competitors and devise effective sales strategies to address these insights.

Identify new market opportunities and potential partnerships to enhance the company’s competitive edge.

Lead Generation and Prospecting:

Initiate and maintain contact with potential clients at the ownership level to understand their needs and project opportunities.

Build and nurture relationships within target market sectors to stay informed about trends and identify opportunities before they become public knowledge.

Participate in trade shows, client-related events, and other networking opportunities to promote our company and services.

Coordinate with internal leaders (VP of Business Development, VP Operations, Project Directors, Preconstruction) to leverage market interface opportunities effectively.

Utilize databases to document sales contacts, track opportunities, and gather project and company information for marketing and proposal purposes.

Internal Collaboration and Team Coordination:

Collaborate with internal teams to implement strategies addressing business opportunities and overcoming obstacles.

Ensure leadership is involved at critical stages of business development opportunities and informed of significant developments.

Maintain regular communication with leadership to keep them updated on major developments.

Actively participate in Business Development department meetings to share best practices, review performance against targets, and engage in informal training.

Pipeline Management and Forecasting:

Qualify potential opportunities early in the development cycle and manage the pipeline to ensure timely pursuit across various stages, meeting business development expectations.

Update the lead/contact management system to track progress and ensure realistic sales forecasts are provided to regional leadership.

Review opportunities with management to determine priorities and decide on pursuits.

Provide regular forecasts and reports on business development activities and performance metrics to senior leadership.

Client Engagement and Selling:

Build relationships at multiple levels within accounts and across all stakeholders.

Work as a strategic partner with management regarding assigned market initiatives.

Prepare for sales calls by setting specific objectives and allocating time to understand or clarify customers' business challenges.

Respond effectively to client requests, resolve critical issues, and meet commitments promptly.

Develop business development strategies to address obstacles, customer objections, and competitive situations.

Qualifications:

BA/BS degree with 10+ years of experience in the construction industry.

Preferred experience in commercial construction within core market sectors.

Solid knowledge of construction delivery methods and processes.

Proven track record of winning business in challenging markets.

Ability to build and maintain trust-based relationships with clients.

Strong relationships at the executive level within market sectors.

Strong business acumen, both financially and operationally.

Clear understanding of design, construction, and acquisition processes within target markets.

Proactive and execution-oriented approach to business development.

Thorough knowledge of the business development process (identification, qualification, capture, and bid activities).

Demonstrated collaborative team leadership and team-building skills.

Ability to influence at senior levels within and outside the organization.

Excellent communication skills and a good listener.

Solution Oriented: critical thinkers, resourceful, collaborative problem solver.

Range of base pay is $170,000 - $250,000 per annum.

Note: This position will be based full-time in our San Mateo office with some travel to our project sites throughout the Bay Area as well as Sacramento and Portland.
