In this position, you will be responsible for a wide range of financial, administration, accounting, bookkeeping, purchasing, vendor management and operational tasks. Job description
The Controller will be responsible for overseeing both the financial and administrative aspects of the business, including financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, duties of a CPA, tax preparation, and financial planning. A successful candidate will also be responsible for overseeing the administrative tasks and ensuring that all office policies and procedures are followed and that day-to-day operations run smoothly. The Controller will enhance the accuracy of the company's reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles. The Controller has direct and/or indirect supervision of the Finance Department, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, invoicing and credit/collections and is responsible for managing the process to ensure that work is properly allocated and completed in a timely and accurate manner.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structureDirect and coordinate the accounting functionsManage accounts payable and receivableManage the preparation of financial statementsManage the implementation of accounting policies and proceduresManage the general ledger and payroll proceduresManage tax filings for all entitiesFill in for the payroll and accounting staff as neededEnsure the timely reporting of all monthly/quarterly financial informationSupport budget and forecasting activitiesRespond to inquiries from the Executive Management team, and other finance and firm wide managers regarding in financial results, special reporting requests and the likeAssist in the development and implementation of new procedures and features to enhance the workflow of the departmentMonitor and analyze accounting and finance department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracyOrganize paper and electronic files and prepare for auditsManage data room content for investor relations including leasers, contacts and other materialReview, comment and negotiate contracts such as legal engagements, employee contracts, new partner agreementsManage purchasing and identify potential savingsManage and negotiate new vendor contacts, purchasing thru bids/quotes and negotiate discounts with existing vendorsGrow the business by making sure we are listed in contactor databases such as Massachusetts business, woman-owned and access your network to contribute your ideas for our sales and marketing effortsManage grant compliance, insurance coverage and other business needsManage IP relationships and/or bring patent filing in-houseHelp establish new relationships and build internal teams focused on customer services, sales and marketing, fulfillmentUnderstand and manage health insurance billingProvide training to new and existing staff as neededOnboard new employees into our systems.Handle personnel issues relating to staff conflicts, absenteeism, performance issues, etc.Other projects/duties as assignedMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum of 10+ years of finance, accounting, operations, office management and management experienceBachelor's Degree, Graduate degree preferredExpertise in GAAP, Sox, Audit and Tax preparationWorking knowledge of state and federal employment lawsExperience in a startup environment is preferredWillingness to work hard and take direction and also anticipate problems and their solutions without explicit guidanceHighly developed verbal and written communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to compose correspondence and content materialsResponsive and proactive, with the ability to work well under tight deadlines and to respond to rapidly changing demandsStrong organizational and analytical skills that reflect ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with excellent attention to detailPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
