MISSIONThe American Red Cross, a humanitarian organization led by volunteers, guided by its Congressional Charter and the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross Movement, will provide relief to victims of disasters and helps people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies.
PROGRAM OVERVIEWThis position supports the Regional Biomedical Services department. This opportunity requires participation in in-person activities and/or performing work in a Red Cross facility. Supervise and support the volunteer team who delivers blood to or from hospitals, labs, and both mobile and fixed-site blood drives.
VOLUNTEER ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIESSupervise Volunteer Leads, Transportation Specialists, Volunteer Trainers, and Volunteer Dispatchers/Admin in the Transportation ProgramOnboard, direct, and assist volunteers to perform transportation work throughout the regionEnsure volunteer drivers are scheduled and data is captured in Driver Manifests, logs, and Volunteer ConnectionCommunicate and share feedback between Red Cross personnel and hospital customersMeet Red Cross fleet policies and standardsTrain, direct, and assist volunteers to perform transportation work throughout the regionMay distribute blood to area hospitals as routine or "stat" deliveries; transport blood and blood products from blood collection sites to the laboratory for processing; pick up and return boxes as needed; complete required paperwork and obtain signatures. Drive safely and responsibly and provide strong customer service at all times.Advise the Regional Distribution team of process improvements needed; suggest improvements to the Transportation CoordinatorMay recruit and coordinate the work of volunteer steering committeesManage process for approved new volunteers (i.e., the initial call to volunteer, setting up a time for on-the-job training, fuel pin, badge, etc.). Provide volunteers with an introduction to the department, team, supervisor, giving a tour, etc.Support the day-to-day work of volunteers (i.e. schedule shifts, hand out keys, answer calls from volunteers, discuss the schedule for the day with volunteers, etc.)Issue Area(s) : Disaster Readiness & Response, Non-Profit Capacity BuildingRequirementsAge Minimum (with Adult): 18+, Minimum Age: 18+After expressing interest, the Opportunity Leader will contact you to confirm participation and provide directions for this opportunity.
