Summary: Mortenson is currently seeking an experienced Senior Design Phase Manager I/Preconstruction in the Solar Group with the ability to interact with a variety of staff at all levels in an ever-changing environment, remaining flexible, resourceful, proactive, and efficient with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality. Aptitude to anticipate problems, critical issues, and opportunities as they arise; along with the capability to creatively problem solve and bring together viable solutions. Excellent written and verbal communications skills are vital, with attention to detail equally important. The Design Phase Manager will ensure the owner's vision is translated into design solutions and construction parameters through leadership of the design process and team members. May work on two projects simultaneously or one larger project. Responsibilities: Overall project leadership during the design phase as it relates to customer experience, financial performance, schedule, estimating, design, and planning which will result in a smooth transition to construction operations. Lead the project team in achieving scope and budget alignment, schedule alignment, an integrated team experience, construction readiness, and excellent financial performance Establish and manage project budget and scope expectations, budget trending logs and associated communications and resources Create and manage project schedules and key milestones, hold team members accountable for reaching set milestones Ensure regulatory approvals and permits are obtained Ensure proper alignment of design documents and project execution plan Responsible for bid packages and contract manuals Provide advanced resolution to technical design and specification concerns Develop or review project margin plans, and develop strategies to minimize risk and enhance opportunity Act as primary point of contact with owners, architects, engineers, and trade partners during the design phase and lead the overall project team Establish, monitor and measure against project success factors for customers, design partners, and Mortenson team Responsible for establishing an integrated team experience by ensuring role clarity, proper communication, and facilitating a culture that fosters collaboration Facilitate the solicitation, selection, and contracting with designers for design build projects Manage, mentor, and guide design phase team members to ensure clear direction and career growth Develop and/or lead the preparation and presentation of project proposals Effectively work and build relationships with those of diverse backgrounds and organizational levels Lead team members by example, offer effective coaching and feedback, and effectively manage performance All other duties as assigned Qualifications: Minimum of 10 years relevant experience Utility solar experience preferred Risk management skills Microsoft Office, project and pertinent web application skills at an intermediate level Active listening skills and effective communication including an openness to diverse input and feedback Strong teamwork orientation, initiative, communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills Detail orientation sufficient to organize and manage multiple project tasks Basic understanding of construction law and generally accepted business practices Ability to interpret and communicate Mortenson policies Ability to travel up to 50% Valid driver's license Education: Bachelor's degree in Construction Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, Estimating, or equivalent field #LI-TA1 Mortenson is an EOE/Affirmative Action/M/F/Veteran/Disabled employer.
