DescriptionBackground Information:Innovative Defense Technologies (IDT), provider of automated software testing, data analysis, and cybersecurity solutions for complex, mission-critical systems for the US Department of Defense (DOD) and commercial customers, is seeking a Sr. Software Engineer to be based in our Arlington, VA office.Overview:The Sr. Software Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and integrating mission-critical DoD software solutions. The primary role of the Sr. Software Engineer is to design high-quality, innovative, and fully performing software which integrates with other system components to perform the DoD mission. The Sr. Software Engineer will be working with various Navy Surface Warfare customers and internal colleagues to gather user requirements, define system functionality, allocate functionality to subsystems, and write code in various languages, like Java, C++, Python, and JavaScript. You will work with software engineers, systems engineers, integration engineers, and subject matter experts to deliver robust technical solutions.All applicants must currently possess an active U.S. Security Clearance. This is an onsite role based out of our Arlington, VA office.Responsibilities Include:Define and oversee a modern software architecture stack for developing tactical and support software for DoD systemsDesign, develop, document, and test software stack and software code written in various languagesIntegrate software components into a complex software development environmentUnderstand and interact with complex DoD software systemsConduct technical reviews of software designs, identifying potential issues and providing recommendations for improvementsEnsure adherence to industry standards pertaining to security, orthodox programming paradigms, and performance requirementsWork with small cross-site teams of software and/or systems engineersResearch and evaluate emerging technologies and industry trends related to open architecture, cloud and distributed systems, and provide guidance on their potential impact to DoD systemsParticipate in the development of software architecture standards, guidelines, and best practicesMinimum Required Qualifications:7+ years of experience in software engineering and software architecture, with a strong focus on designing and implementing real-time, mission critical applicationsBachelor’s Degree in a relevant field such as software engineering, computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, data science, mathematics, or aeronautical engineeringRequired Skills:Familiarity with the software development process (requirements through deployment) and modern software architecturesFamiliarity with complex DoD mission critical combat systemsAbility to design, develop, and analyze complex software systemsAbility to model/code/test algorithms in C++, Python, Java, or JavaScriptFamiliarity with SQL and relational databases (e.g., Postgres)Proficiency with version control software like Git or SVN and version control workflows that support development of complex software projectsAbility to work independently as well as in a team environmentAbility to perform many concurrent assignments and determine the need for changing prioritiesAbility to travel approximately 5% of the timeAble to work onsite in Arlington, VA officePreferred Skills:Experience working with AEGIS or similar missile defense and anti-air combat systems (e.g., AEGIS, THAAD, Standard Missile, and GMD)Experience working with commercial or military mission planning systems (e.g., JMPS, NOMS, TMPC)Experience working with military sea-based sensors and data (e.g. radar, electronic warfare, electro-optical, infrared, sonar, and weapons data)Experience with cloud computing, virtualization, and containerization technologiesExperience with big data solutions (e.g. Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, Cassandra)Experience with machine learning and/or artificial intelligenceExperience with testing frameworks including unit and interface testingExperience performing Over-the-Air remote software updatesCompetencies:Problem-solving skills with the ability to create plans and navigate ambiguous situationsExcellence in technical communication with peers and non-technical cohortsAbility to work closely with Program Managers, Chief Engineers, and software engineers to document, manage and communicate systems and software designs and requirementsAttention to detailInitiative, creativity, reliability, and teamworkStrong organization and planning skillsAnalytical abilities, coupled with a strong sense of ownership, urgency, and driveEEO Statement:
