Student Housing is a self-funded, large and complex campus department consisting of 6 housing communities and 3 support units, with more than 280 staff employees, 300-400 student employees and an annual operating budget of $120 million. Student Housing provides housing for approximately 9,000 undergraduates, graduate students and their families in over 250 buildings and approximately 3.3 million sq. ft. Currently, Student Housing houses 51% of UCI's enrolled students (in conjunction with American Campus Communities, UCI's 3rd party housing partner) with a goal of housing 60% as part of the campus Long Range Development Plan (LRDP). Student Housing also provides maintenance and repair services to student residents. Responsibilities: The Associate Director of Residential Living supervises Residence Life Coordinators and support staff, and administers the resident and community support services component of a Student Life program. Provides vision, leadership, and oversees the day to day operations for Graduate and Family Housing resident relations, student conduct, and after-hours services. Provides direct service, support, and referral in response to individual or community concerns. Independently oversees day-to-day operations, and determines goals and performance expectations of subordinates. Directly supervises Residence Life Coordinators and indirectly supervises 25 paraprofessional staff: Housing Assistants. Makes recommendations concerning improvements of program /function to the Director of Residential Living and Learning. Provides support after hours to residents in crisis. Responds to questions, suggestions, and complaints. Conducts welfare checks as necessary. Serve as a member of the Graduate and Family Housing and Student Housing Emergency Response Team. Assesses community emergencies and determines appropriate actions. Under the general direction of the Director of Residential Living and Learning, the Associate Director of Residential Living serves as a member of the Graduate and Family Housing Leadership Team and shares responsibility for a housing unit operation with annual operating budgets. As a member of the GFH Leadership Team, the incumbent collaborates with other managers to establish strategic plans and objectives affecting GFH student life and development across the organization. This includes developing shared priorities and advancing goals in support of student enrollment/retention, development, and inclusive excellence. The expected pay range for this recruitment is $$69,500.00- $$83,000.00 (Annual).

Ability to exercise good judgment, tact, diplomacy and professionalism. Ability to communicate and interact effectively with a broad variety of individuals in person, on the phone, and in writing. Advanced knowledge of Student Affairs / Student Housing /Graduate Life specialization. Advanced knowledge of advising and counseling techniques. Advanced knowledge of risk assessment principles along with the ability to evaluate risks and the likelihood of consequences. Demonstrated problem solving, decision making, and implementation skills. Strong leadership skills to motivate employees and influence attitudes and behaviors. Demonstrated ability to effectively supervise and lead. Ability to create, improve, and monitor work standards, procedures and systems that ensure effective service delivery. Proven skill in interpreting, enforcing, and explaining University policies and regulations. Demonstrated skill and experience in the administration of student conduct, policy enforcement, and adjudication of disciplinary cases, and facilitating meetings. Interpersonal and cultural competence skills to effectively communicate with and support a wide variety of people of diverse backgrounds, including understanding and respect for cultural, ethnic and individual differences. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of constituencies including administrators, staff, students, and vendors. Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in residence life, programming, policy review, student conduct and student services.
