Job Purpose:
The Estimator/Project Manager is responsible for accurately estimating the costs associated with acoustic ceiling projects for clients and managing the projects from initiation to completion. This role plays a critical part in the bidding process, providing detailed and competitive estimates that contribute to securing profitable contracts and ensuring the successful execution of projects. This dual-role is key to helping Magnum grow revenue through client relationships, accurate bidding, and effective project management.
Key Accountabilities:
Project Assessment:
- Review project specifications, drawings, and other relevant documents to understand project requirements.
- Conduct on-site assessments to gather information and assess project scope.
- Identify potential risks, challenges, and opportunities that may impact project costs or timelines.
- Read project plans and specifications to determine the total project scope.
Cost Estimation:
- Prepare accurate and detailed cost estimates for acoustic ceiling projects, including materials, labor, equipment, and overhead costs.
- Utilize estimating software and tools to calculate quantities, pricing, and project timelines.
- Ensure estimates align with company pricing strategies and profitability goals.
Bid Preparation:
- Prepare comprehensive bid proposals, including detailed breakdowns of costs, project deliverables, and timelines.
- Collaborate with internal teams, general contractors, and suppliers to obtain competitive pricing and accurate information.
- Review and analyze bid documents to ensure compliance with client requirements and specifications.
Client Communication:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients during the bidding and project management process.
- Communicate effectively with clients to understand their needs, address inquiries, and negotiate terms as needed.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with clients to enhance trust and satisfaction.
- Conduct bid follow-ups as a critical element of the process.
Market Analysis:
- Stay informed about market trends, pricing fluctuations, and industry best practices related to acoustical ceilings.
- Conduct competitive analysis to benchmark pricing and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Provide insights and recommendations to leadership based on market research and analysis.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of bid documents, correspondence, project estimates, and progress reports.
- Prepare and present reports summarizing bid outcomes, project status, win/loss analysis, and lessons learned.
- Document and update estimating databases with relevant pricing information and project data.
Project Management:
- Coordinate and oversee all phases of the project lifecycle, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the client's satisfaction.
- Manage project resources, including labor, materials, and subcontractors.
- Monitor project progress and make adjustments as needed to meet deadlines and resolve issues.
- Communicate regularly with all project stakeholders to provide updates and gather feedback.
Qualifications:
- 7+ years of experience in estimating and managing commercial ACT projects required.
- Field experience preferred.
- Proficiency in construction estimating and project management software (e.g., On-Screen Takeoff, Bluebeam, Procore, Plangrid).
- Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, building codes, and project management principles.
- Excellent analytical, mathematical, and organizational skills.
