Your Impact
As SVP, Business Development, you will join our collaborative and experienced executive team to provide business development and new product planning leadership to further our mission of creating ground-breaking, life-saving allogeneic cell therapy and in vivo genetic medicines for patients.
Position Summary
The incumbent will be responsible for leading and managing a comprehensive business strategy for Poseida’s growth through business development activities as well as value creation in the company’s pipeline assets. They will define and drive Poseida’s business development activities including collaboration, in-licensing, out-licensing, and other strategic transaction initiatives. The SVP, BD will serve as a strategic partner and advisor to the CEO, CFO, company leadership, and the Board of Directors in shaping direction for the company including development and execution of business strategy and is a vital member of the executive management team.
Responsibilities
These may include but are not limited to:
Lead and execute all aspects of business development initiatives including partnering strategy and execution of collaboration, in-licensing and out-licensing agreements that fit with corporate strategy. At the highest level, this includes defining a partnering strategy that optimizes value creation for Poseida. At the asset or asset cluster level, activities will include assessing competitive landscape, business case development, conducting due diligence, lead generation and sourcing, financial analysis, identifying and engaging with key decision makers, and successfully closing transactions.Work closely with the CEO, CFO and other cross functional members of the senior management team to establish, drive and implement overall corporate growth strategy and long-range planning based on current portfolio opportunities and risks, financing needs and organizational capabilities. Assist in identifying portfolio, financing and/or organizational gaps and plans for how to best address them. Create alignment on the strategy across the Company and with the Board.Identify and evaluate strategic business opportunities: out-licensing and in-licensing, academic and industry partnerships, M&As, alliances, and joint ventures.Work closely with the Board and senior management team to evaluate current and future business development and market opportunities.Prepare business development documents, presentations, and briefing books. Prepare, evaluate and present robust financial modeling and analyses to value projects and terms; develop, participate and deliver high level impactful presentations and conclusions to senior management, Board of Directors, key prospects and stakeholders. Participate in deal construction and negotiations.Search and identify potential partners in accordance with business development strategy, establish and maintain a broad network of pharmaceutical and biotechnology relationships.Identify and build product and/or technology alliances with appropriate academic and biotechnology/pharmaceutical partners.Lead discussions with pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and other organizations to communicate the potential benefits of partnering with or licensing Poseida.Partner with Preclinical and IP teams to evaluate the potential of early stage products and platform technologies, integrate a commercial perspective early in the research and development process, and develop monetization approaches as appropriate.Lead and mentor a high-performing and expert BD team.
Requirements
Requirements, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Advanced degree in business or scientific discipline and 20+ years’ experience in business development and new product planning/strategic marketing in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry. MBA, M.S., M.D./D.O., PharmD or Ph.D. along with some scientific coursework is preferred, In-line commercial experience (in addition to required pipeline commercial experience) also preferred.Previous experience within cell therapy and/or genetic medicine companies highly desired. Oncology, inflammation/autoimmune, and/or chronic disease experience preferred.Demonstrated record of successfully identifying, evaluating, structuring, negotiating, and closing a variety of large and complex licensing and/or partnership transactions. Passionate and self-motivated to drive deals to a successful conclusion and to deliver quality results.Deep understanding of pharmaceutical product lifecycle management including drug development and delivery process, regulatory paths, product launch and commercialization over the life cycleExcellent presentation and communications skills—the ability to influence and work successfully with varied audiences (colleagues, biotechnology and pharmaceutical partners, financial institutions, customers and the Board of Directors).Proven people leader with experience building teams, capabilities, and functionsEnergetic self-starter with strong executive presence, results orientation and the ability to work effectively in an entrepreneurial and cross-functional environment.Travel may be required up to 20% of the time.
SVP, Business Development Base Salary Range: $380,000 to $405,000 per year
The final pay offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and length of experience within the job, type, and length of experience with the industry, education, geographic location, etc.
