Department Summary
Counseling & Testing Services consists of two inter-related parts: The Counseling Center and Testing Services. We strive to support the academic success and general well-being of UNT students through professional counseling, career counseling, mental-health screenings, educational programs, and self-help resources.
Position Overview
This position provides immediate crisis support to the UNT community when police are called to help address community members experiencing a mental health crisis. The purpose of this position is to reduce use of force, decrease repeat encounters, deescalate tense situations, and foster positive engagement with the UNT community.
Minimum Qualifications
Currently licensed to practice in Texas as a Psychologist, Professional Counselor, or Clinical Social Worker. If licensed in another state, must obtain a Texas license within 24 months of hire. Demonstrated experience in crisis intervention, risk assessment, care coordination, and case management.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of professional counseling practices, policies, and procedures.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Knowledge of safety and security precautions appropriate to work performed.
Preferred Qualifications
Extensive experience providing crisis assessment, intervention, and follow-up coordination of care.
Experience using Titanium software and working in a college counseling or acute care treatment setting.
Required License/Registration/Certifications
Full, unrestricted TX license as a: Licensed Psychologist, Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. If licensed in another state, must obtain Texas licensure within 6 months of employment.
Job Duties:
Respond to calls for service involving individuals in a mental health crisis.
Conduct mental health assessments to determine appropriate interventions.
Provide consultation for crisis intervention and stabilization alongside officers.
Provide mental health training and consultation for police officers.
Coordinate case management with external referrals and assist in identifying students who may benefit from services.
Conduct follow-ups for mental health-related calls.
Maintain CEU requirements and an active license.
Maintain professionalism and positive work relationships.
Work Schedule:
Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm
