Over the course of more than 125 years, MNCs have provided services essential to the improvement of the lives of San Francisco’s communities. Today, we have 21 campuses which are enhancing the lives of low-income seniors, youth, and families.The Academic Counselor will assist current youth and youth adult students in setting educational goals, exploring alternatives, and making decisions regarding their academic programs. These services are provided by counseling participants through individual and group counseling and advisement, short-term classes, workshops, reference materials, referrals to resources on or off MNC, and using testing tools. The incumbent will teach basic skills to students with varying academic levels while integrating GED skills, reading and math skills, social justice and community issues, and culture.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / RESPONSIBILITIESProvide current and prospective MNC Youth Services students personal counseling, career development, and assessment for individuals or groups.Help students study and prepare for the GED exam, and assess their readiness, instructing students in basic skills like math, science, English, and literature.Supervise ESL (English as a Second Language) Instructor and support in curriculum, teaching, and outreach for the ESL program.Provide academic advising about the College’s occupational and vocational programs, and programs which prepare students to graduate and transfer.Help students meet necessary goals and qualify to get a GED.Demonstrate leadership skills, e.g., coordinating programs or activities, initiating new services, leading workgroups and presentations.Assist students with appeal processes and waivers: Financial aid, enrollment priority, remedial coursework, probation, and course repetition.Work with students to create learning plans that meet their needs.Gather and analyze data to identify barriers to graduation and factors that negatively affect academic performance.Collaborate with faculty, school counselors, and administrators to develop classroom strategies and support students.Support, guide, and approve curricula from Youth Services programming; afterschool, summer camp, in-school group facilitation, cohort sessions, and workshops.Provide short-term counseling services and support site staff in meeting students' social, emotional, and educational needs.Be a point of contact for families and help coordinate efforts to accommodate students with disabilities and special needs.Analyze student performance to provide guidance and identify potential problems.In conjunction with Education Staff & volunteers, effectively apply for grants and coordinate to meet requirements of various grants; and maintain compliance.Track, collect, document, and report for participant files, statistics, written procedures and related documentation requirements; maintain current records for timely response to desk audits and general file reviews.Establish relationships and effective communications and partnerships with community agencies, governmental/health organizations, educational institutions, and local civic/business organizations; serve as department liaison.Coordinate communication & marketing efforts for GED Program (social media accounts, website content, community newsletter, etc.) in conjunction with Program Manager and MNC administration.Perform marketing and outreach activities to encourage participation through effective communications and dissemination of publicity and promotional materials.Attend funders and collaborative meetings discussing relevant topics related to Youth Education programs as assigned, to stay abreast of changes within City departments that affect our communities and to further align MNC programs with community needs and city objectives.Support in developing and implementing tools and methods to continuously improve quality, efficiency, and customer experience in MNC Education Services.Prepare program specific reports as needed for agency leadership, including Board of Directors.Assist in special projects, activities, and events as requested.Customer ServiceProvide exceptional customer service.Always represent the Company in a professional manner.SafetyMaintain personal safety, use personal protection equipment (PPE), and follow Company policies.Report all safety issues, accidents, or injuries to your manager as a matter of priority.Effective Team MemberInteract positively with team members.Facilitate positive change.Partner with supervisor when necessary to address department issues or concerns.POSITION QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTSEducation :

A bachelor's degree in education, counseling, or a related field, and preferably a master's degree.Experience :

Experience in academic advising or counseling, and preferably experience in higher education and with student retention and success initiatives.Requirement:Current CA Driver’s License, current auto insurance, and a clean driving record.Skills and Abilities:Independent thinker, possess excellent customer service skills, professional attitude, a high level of personal integrity, maturity, and business judgment required.Able to multi-task, prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, do presentations, and maintain confidential information. Strong analytical skills and demonstrated attention to detail.Strong written and verbal communication skills. Must be a well-organized professional who thrives in a team-oriented environment.Ability to remain tactful under pressure and present a professional demeanor and communication style with co-workers in a multicultural setting.Software:

Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications: Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Internet Explorer.Decision Making:
