Over the past few decades, we have expanded this campus from its small roots built on former farmland into a major healthcare hub that provides access to a higher level of care than any other hospital in the area.Job SummaryThe MRI Technologist I performs procedures in accordance with departmental protocols and standards, operating MRI scanners and associated equipment with a high level of proficiency.Essential FunctionsExamines requests and verifies orders on each assigned patient. Refers and questions orders to the Radiologist before performing the exam.Properly identifies patients (using two patient identifiers) and assists patients while offering a brief explanation of the procedures.Interviews patients for a complete medical history and correlates other test results and laboratory data with the exam being performed.Assumes responsibility for the exam from beginning to completion of dictated results.Prepares and administers IV contrast according to departmental protocols.Evaluates technical quality of images and consults with a Radiologist if needed.Performs basic patient care functions and informs appropriate nursing personnel of any changes in the patient’s condition.Practices proper sterile technique in the preparation of necessary supplies for invasive procedures.Reports malfunctioning equipment to the department director/manager/supervisor.Maintains knowledge and skills required to work safely in an environment that can create significant exposure to bloodborne pathogens and infectious disease.Operates radiology computer system to include entering orders and charging procedures/supplies.Maintains assigned work area in a neat and orderly fashion.Maintains knowledge of all MRI safety requirements for both staff and patients.Physical RequirementsRequires moderate to heavy physical efforts in lifting and moving patients, equipment, and supplies. Occasional standing, walking, and sitting during normal operation.Education, Experience and CertificationsGraduate of an accredited two-year AMA approved program in Radiologic or Nuclear Medicine Technology or active enrollment in an ARMRIT or ARRT registry eligible program required. ARRT certification in Radiologic Technology, ARRT or NMTCB for Nuclear Medicine with advanced registry from the ARMRIT or ARRT in MRI required within one year of hire. Current CPR certification required.
