Process Analytical Team Scientist - Decatur, ILPosition Summary:

We are looking for a motivated scientist with a strong background in chemistry, spectroscopy, data science, and chemometric modeling to join our growing process analytical team. The successful candidate will join a collaborative, multidisciplinary team of engineers, chemists, biologists, data scientists, and production experts to help drive results leveraging analytical techniques combined with prescriptive analytics. This team supports a wide variety of projects from proof-of-concepts, initial implementations, and ongoing initiatives to support ADM’s quality control laboratories and production locations.

Job Responsibilities:

Act as a subject matter expert in chemistry, spectroscopy (including NIR and FTIR), and data science as part of the process analytical team at ADM to help leverage data automation and build scalable solutions.

Support end-to-end analysis processes, including gathering data, conducting statistical analysis, building statistical and machine learning models for prescriptive analytics, and developing/implementing chemometric models.

Recommend best practices that will drive alignment, simplify execution, improve quality, create efficiencies, and support solutions at scale.

Learn new problem domains and help guide stakeholders through ideation, estimation, and implementation of solutions.

Effectively communicate insights, recommendations, and expectations to stakeholders of varying levels of technical experience and provide regular status updates and other documentation related to project support.

Collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team to achieve project goals.

Comfortable working in a flexible environment and adapting to new and evolving individual/team assignments.

Stay updated with the latest industry trends and technologies to continuously improve processes and solutions.

Job Requirements:

Subject matter expert with experience in chemistry, spectroscopy, data engineering, and data science:

Knowledge of advanced statistical techniques and concepts (statistical tests and regression analysis, etc.) and a variety of machine learning techniques (cluster analysis, regression, and decision tree analysis, etc.)

Experience (or knowledge) of Python, R, and/or SQL coding languages.

Experience in data visualization tools like R or Power BI

Additional knowledge of other data analysis tools (JMP, Unscrambler, PLS toolbox, etc.)

Proficiency in analytical techniques and problem-solving frameworks, including root cause analysis, hypothesis testing, and translation of insights into business impacts.

BA/BS degree in a Chemistry, Computer Science, or similar field and/or equivalent certifications.

1-3+ years of relevant experience in chemistry, spectroscopy, data engineering, and/or data science.

Project management, demonstrating delivery of value to the business through execution of projects.

Experience in developing and validating chemometric models and methods.

Knowledge of statistics, SPC tools, and LIMS.

Excellent written and oral communication skills with both technical and non-technical personnel.

Demonstrated ability to work with diverse, multidisciplinary teams.

Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

MS+

Knowledge of chemistry, spectroscopy (including NIR and FTIR), and/or chemometrics.

Familiarity with nutritional sciences and/or the food-related industry.
