for Waldo County General Hospital (WCGH), a 25-bed critical access hospital in the picturesque coastal town of Belfast, Maine.The Senior Medical Director & ACMO will carry out responsibilities which may include regulatory affairs, accreditation, acquisition and development of physician resources via contractual agreements, strategic planning, quality oversight and initiatives, program development and implementation, and engagement of senior leadership for the achievement of institutional and program goals.This position has a primary reporting relationship to MaineHealth's Coastal Region CMO and works closely with MaineHealth's Pen Bay Medical Center's ACMO, Coastal Healthcare Alliance Medical Directors, MaineHealth Medical Group Senior Medical Directors, and MaineHealth Coastal Region CMOs.This is an approximately 0.4 FTE administrative role. It is expected that this person's remaining effort would be dedicated to clinical practice at Waldo County General Hospital.Successful candidates will have:Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathic Medicine (MD, DO)License or license eligible in the State of MaineBoard CertificationAppointment to the PBMC and WCGH Medical Staff5 years of increasing responsibility as a physician leaderInstitutional experience within a complex healthcare organizationCapacity for, and understanding of, regulatory compliance, healthcare finance, strategic planning and institutional processDemonstrated characteristics of fairness, integrity and accountabilityExcellent communication and physician engagement skillsHigh levels of ethical and professional conductPatient-centered mindsetPrimary Job Functions:Represents the CMO in any matter as requestedAssists and coordinates the development and ongoing implementation of effective quality assurance and patient safety plans to ensure high quality clinical practice and compliance with best practice guidelines and evidence-based medicineEnsures timely and appropriate communication and effective input from the Medical Staff on health system decisionsAwareness of Medical Staff views and able to present and articulate themMaintains effective communication and relationships with both health system and medical staff constituenciesHelps supports Medical Staff leaders, department chairs, and committee chairs in carrying out their functions effectivelyProvides leadership and staff support for credentialing, privileging, and peer review activitiesAttends appropriate Medical Staff committee meetings maximizing effectiveness of these committees toward performance improvement, high clinical quality, and compliance with appropriate rules, regulations and accreditation standardsPromotes compliance with Medical Staff code of conduct and assists Medical Staff president in building and maintaining successful physician related relationships throughout the systemWorks closely with Medical Staff committees and Vice President for Nursing and Patient Care Services in risk management and utilization management to assure overall, safe, effective and efficient use of resources in the clinical settingProvides primary supervision to the Community Health and Wellness DepartmentHelps draft interfacility and interdepartmental transfer agreements to promote high quality careAssists CMO in quality work including attendance in RCAs and clinical care reviews as neededFacilitates interface with other senior leaders in matters with shared goalsAssists in administrative oversight of accreditation and regulatory readiness for the institution within realm of regulatory affairsProvides effective leadership and communication with senior management, clinical/academic departments, and regulatory agenciesPromotes strategic partnerships with physician entities such as the MaineHealth Medical GroupCollaborates with senior management in strategic financial and budgeting processes for physician contractsMaintains integrity and equanimity in the management of sensitive issuesWith 100 physicians and advanced practice providers and 800 care team members on staff, WCGH provides top-notch care to the community both on campus and throughout the community through partnerships with local health organizations.Located along the picturesque coast of Maine, the Midcoast Region offers some of the most spectacular natural beauty and outdoor recreation found anywhere in the country.
