POSITION SUMMARY :Boston Medical Center Health System (BMCHS) is a $6 billion revenue integrated academic health care system and health plan whose purpose is to provide equitable and value-based continuum of care, while transforming the outcomes of low(er) income and vulnerable populations in Massachusetts, New Hampshire and beyond.The pharmacy section of BMCHS is a broad, complex organization made up of both hospital and health plan pharmacy service lines. BMCHS, its care model, and by extension, its pharmacy operations occupy a unique position in the Massachusetts and US healthcare landscape. Over 60% of clinical care is in (near) full risk arrangements, there is a strong commitment to value based care, and to addressing the core health drivers (social determinants of health) in the communities that BMCHS serves. BMCHS's patients disproportionately come from communities of color, so there is also a deep investment in addressing health inequities both within the organization, and in partnership with community organizations.With nearly 500 FTEs and ~$900M in revenue, BMC hospital pharmacy is a crucial part of both the broader hospital and system operations. The Chief of Staff for Pharmacy will work on major projects to help lead and support BMC Hospital pharmacy including inpatient, ambulatory, specialty pharmacy, advanced therapies / bio-engineered products (e.g. cell therapy program, gene therapy programs etc.), research pharmacy, pharmacy revenue cycle, mail order, retail, and community partnerships. The Chief of Staff will play a critical role in communicating with hospital and health system executives with and on behalf of the BMC Hospital VP, Chief Pharmacy Officer (CPO), as well as acting as a proxy for the Hospital VP/CPO with department leadership and staff.The ideal candidate will play a critical role in leading initiatives for hospital pharmacy in alignment with the organization's goals: engaging key stakeholders, developing critical analyses to drive decision making, leading and advancing key hospital pharmacy initiatives, and measuring impact. He/she/they will work directly with the Hospital VP/CPO and other senior leaders on a day-to-day basis. This role represents an ideal entry point for those looking to lead within a hospital or healthcare organization by providing counsel and support to executive leaders and leading priority projects.Position: Chief of StaffDepartment: PharmacySchedule: Full TimeESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:Essential Position Duties and ResponsibilitiesPartner with the Hospital VP/CPO to ensure pharmacy operations run smoothly and meet targets across all pharmacy service lines (inpatient, specialty, 340b, cell and gene therapy, supply chain, revenue cycle, etc.)Manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously while outlining milestones, meeting key deadlines, and deliverablesCollaborate with Pharmacy Finance to help set comprehensive goals for performance and growth and ensure the teams hit those goalsDevelop forums and communications to link hospital pharmacy leadership with both the broader pharmacy organization and other hospital leadershipCollect data across BMC's internal systems (clinical, operational, IT, HR, etc.) and conduct rigorous analysis to support decision-makingPartner with IT teams to help create solutions that support operations' analytics and workflow needsEstablish and maintain Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for all departments with special focus on BMC section goals (e.g. quality, growth, efficiency)Evaluate performance by analyzing and interpreting data and metricsDevelop plans for turnaround and improvement where needed, building support for the vision and managing stakeholders towards successful implementationSupport Hospital CPO in identifying and pursuing expansion activities (capital projects, investments, acquisitions, alliances, etc.)Provide oversight of project management for the implementation of strategic projects, connecting workstreams that might otherwise remain siloedAssist in the development and guidance of organizational initiatives aimed at closing health equity gapsPosition Responsibilities:Help lead staff development activities and promote teamwork and positive moraleHelp build systems and processes to identify, hire, onboard and develop quality talentParticipate as a senior member of the operations team and help meet corporate objectivesFacilitate regular staff meetings with the ops team to disseminate company information and reviews performance against budget and plan objectivesDisplay excellent communication skills including presentation, persuasion, and negotiation skills required in working with coworkers and other stakeholders, including the ability to communicate effectively and remain calm and courteous under pressureBe a champion for BMC / Pharmacy culture and norms with corporate, client, and on-site teams, ensuring it flows through in every interaction and processSupervisory ResponsibilitiesProvide support for the BMC Health System Pharmacy team by modeling the organization's policies and applicable laws, and holding others to the same standards. Responsibilities include interviewing; hiring; helping to develop training materials; support in planning, assigning, and directing work; helping to address complaints and resolving problems.Must adhere to all of BMC's RESPECT behavioral standards.JOB REQUIREMENTSEDUCATION:B.A. or B.S. from four-year college or university (engineering or pharmacy degree preferred), plus M.B.A, MPH or other advanced degree preferredCERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:NoneEXPERIENCE:Prior management consulting experience at a top-tier consulting firm or hospital administration at a matrixed organization.
