We are industry-leading experts, and we work hard to encourage a collaborative and team-oriented environment.A Day in the Life of a Planner IIYou are part of an interdisciplinary team that plans and designs multimodal transportation infrastructure and programs. We work in a wide range of contexts - from streetscapes and roadway reconstructions in highly urban settings to signature trail projects that highlight and enhance rural places and the natural environment.As a Planner II you will manage tasks, lead analyses, work directly with our clients, represent Toole Design in project and stakeholder meetings, and reinforce our reputation as trusted experts. You’ll work collaboratively with staff from across all disciplines to deliver a variety of exciting projects focused on making places and travel experiences better and more equitable for everyone. You are at the table with clients and colleagues from a variety of disciplines, integrating input from a broad range of stakeholders to create transformational plans that lead directly to implementation.Our projects are all different scales: national, state, regional, and local. They encompass research, policy, planning, design guidance, program development, inclusive engagement, implementation, and evaluation. We work on multimodal corridor studies, Vision Zero, Safe Routes to Schools, new mobility and curbside management, trails and greenways, complete streets, and access to transit. What brings them together is our mission: we never accept a project that does not align with our values. We push clients to think about equity, climate, safety, and health every step of the way.We are targeting a salary range of 64,000 to $75,600 for this position.Work Schedule for a Planner II:This full-time position typically works a flexible schedule of 40 hours a week. We also provide employees with the flexibility and necessary equipment to work from home up to 2-3 days per week. The Portland office of Toole Design is conveniently located in the heart of Portland’s Transit Mall, served by many MAX light rail and bus lines. Facebook .Minimum Qualifications of a Planner II:4 years of education and/or work experience directly related to what we do. This could include a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, or work in urban planning, landscape architecture, urban design, engineering, public health, or a related field. It could also include experience in community outreach, housing advocacy, research, policy analysis, public-serving programs, or other related fields.Experience related to multimodal transportation, transportation safety, inclusive public engagement, or communications is highly desirable.Experience independently managing projects or tasks while working as part of a larger, multidisciplinary team.Strong writing skills and experience developing documents that present technical information to a variety of audiences.Proficiency using Excel for data and demographic analysis.Proficiency developing polished work products that present information visually. This could include infographics and data visualization, mapping experience with ArcGIS or QGIS, or experience with graphic design and document production in Adobe Creative Suite.Experience with surveys, tabling, focus groups, fieldwork, and other data collection methods.Strong cultural competency with people from racial and ethnic backgrounds different than your own.Experience in the various stages of marketing, including business development, proposal strategy and writing, and interviewing are all a plus.If you meet most of these qualifications, we encourage you to apply!
