Your Role on the Team

Position Summary:

The incumbent provides patient care to an assigned group of patients in the Cancer Center. The nurse incorporates the psycho-motor and age appropriate cognitive skills of the patient/family/significant other utilizing knowledge of patient assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation. Assists in patient research accrual by varied projects and reviewing patient schedules against available protocols. Acts as a role model to students and Clinical Nurse's new to the unit. Functions as a Patient Care Coordinator as requested by the supervisor/manager.Essential Job Functions:The identification of essential functions below is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties that may be assigned to this position.Reviews patient test results in a timely manner, interpreting and communicating results in a manner consistent with the age of the patient.Recognizes critical deviations in patient conditions and takes appropriate action.Performs and maintains Point of Care Testing (POCT) Quality Controls per standards as required.Makes appropriate referrals to resolve patient issues effectively.Ensures compliance with hospital wide standards of nursing care.Demonstrates appropriate use of independent judgment and decision making.Delegates patient care activities to appropriate members of the health care team, providing effective leadership.Collaborates with staff and members of the healthcare team, ensuring the coordination of care.Actively empathizes with patients and demonstrates care appropriate for their age and background.Develops and implements accurate teaching and discharge plans.

What It Takes to be Successful

Required Qualifications:Training and experience in the management of patients receiving cellular therapy.Minimum of six months demonstrated nursing experience.Minimum 6 months experience working as an RN in an Inpatient or Outpatient Oncology setting OR 1 Year clinical experience and recent completion of cancer basics class from Oncology Nursing Society.Minimum 2 years of current oncology and chemotherapy experience.Current California RN license.Current BLS certification.Preferred Qualifications:Oncology Certification.Bilingual skills to communicate effectively with patients and families.Conditions of Employment:
