Responsibilities: Provide leadership to the Poorvu Center by developing and implementing a communication strategy designed to inform both the University community and external audiences about the center's mission, resources, and accomplishments. Recognize the significance of Poorvu Center initiatives and resources and align communications to the University's overall mission and priorities. Guide routine communication with Poorvu Center stakeholders by managing the website and communications to various audiences. Work with the Executive Director to deliver critical information internally to members of our organization. Serve as the primary content creator for the Poorvu Center by collaborating with colleagues to update websites, social media accounts, weekly newsletters, handouts, and publications. Serve as managing editor of the faculty teaching newsletter and news features of the website, which may include text and video content, as well as content designed for Yale news outlets. Consult with Poorvu Center teams to market new educational initiatives to the Yale community, specific external groups, and the general public. Create and analyze reports based on metrics and use data to optimize communications processes. Study communication preferences of staff and faculty groups and adjust operations accordingly. Extend the reach of the Poorvu Center by placing stories and content in media outlets that raise our visibility and increase awareness of our resources and Yale's educational excellence. This may involve collaboration with the Office of Public Affairs and Communications and other strategic partners. Manage the work of external web specialists, graphic designers, writers, and photographers, as needed.

Required Skills: Demonstrated experience providing leadership and strategic direction for communication priorities; ability to influence change. Excellent writing skills for diverse audiences across various formats including web, email, print, news media, and social media. Excellent verbal and interpersonal skills; effective at delivering presentations and public speaking. Ability to work independently and collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders, incorporating timely feedback and using editorial judgment with strong attention to detail. Commitment to respecting diversity while advancing equity and inclusion. Strong capacity to evaluate and solve communications needs under tight deadlines. Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines amidst competing priorities. Ability or willingness to learn how to use data about impact and efficacy to inform and adapt communication strategies. Familiarity with academic communications, including administrative needs and preferences of faculty, students, and staff. Proficiency with content management systems and mass communications tools, Microsoft Office software, and willingness to learn to use video, blogging, live-streamed discussions, and other non-traditional media.

Preferred Education:

Bachelor's degree in communications, English, journalism or related field. 5 years demonstrated experience in journalism, communications, or marketing; an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated experience. Proven experience in developing communications for broad external audiences through a range of media, both independently and in collaboration with diverse stakeholders.

Work Week:

Standard (M-F equal number of hours per day)
