Position Description
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Cooking Instructor for youth participants to join our team at the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening our community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Under the supervision of the Youth Enrichment Program Director, the Cooking Instructor will provide guided instruction in the areas of culinary arts and safety in the kitchen. As a Cooking Instructor for youth participants, you will create positive, nurturing relationships with children while building cooperative relationships with parents/caregivers, staff and partners. You will promote and support the potential of all youth in our programs/classes and facilitate peer-to-peer connections of the overall program experience.
Qualifications
AGE:
18 years or older
EDUCATION:
High school Diploma or equivalent.
College credits and formal education in culinary arts preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
A minimum of 1 years' experience teaching culinary skills to children ages 3-11
SKILLS:
Strong oral and written communication skills, proficient in Microsoft Office Programs
Responsibilities
Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of participants in the program by always providing appropriate supervision.
Teach basic cooking techniques, kitchen safety, and proper food handling
that build their level of skill and confidence.
Plan and implement meaningful skills that are age-appropriate, exciting, and challenging.
Work cooperatively with members and other program staff.
Promote an inclusive, welcoming, and respectful environment that embraces the diversity of all participants.
Maintain accurate program documentation (attendance rosters, incident reports as appropriate).
Serve as a positive role model for participants.
Work closely with the Youth Enrichment Program Director to secure and maintain all equipment or supplies needed for Cooking.
Understand and communicate the YMCA's core values and the goals of the Y to participants and care givers.
Develop and maintain positive relationships and communicate effectively with parents or guardians about class schedules and progress as needed.
Actively participate in training sessions, designated meetings, and special events.
