Job Description - Music Therapist- PRN (As Needed)- DC (2400023E)DescriptionThe Music Therapist will help develop, implement, and evaluate a music therapy program for patients receiving care from the Department/Division. Foster positive and professional interpersonal relationships with patients/families, physicians, hospital staff, community representatives, and visitors. Effectively use interpersonal communication skills to promote a healing environment.QualificationsMinimum EducationBachelor's Degree (Required)Master's Degree (Preferred)

Minimum Work Experience2 years Post Bachelor's experience as a music therapist (Preferred)1 year Post Master’s experience as a music therapist (Preferred)

Required Skills/KnowledgeExcellent inter-personal and communication skills.Ability to relate to diverse patient populations.Sensitivity to individuals from varied backgrounds and cultures.Competency with age-specific needs from childhood through young adulthood.

Functional AccountabilitiesDevelopmentWork with patients, families, and staff to understand the needs of different patient populations in relation to a music therapy program.Participate in developing appropriate documentation standards to reflect music therapy assessments and interventions.Participate in developing materials to explain and promote the program.Participate in designing measures to evaluate the effectiveness of the program.Participate in setting goals and priorities for the music therapy program.EvaluateMeet individual patients and parents/guardians to explain the music therapy program, invite participation, and answer questions.Assess individual and/or group needs and identify goals based on assessment.Develop a plan for music therapy interventions for individuals and groups as appropriate.Design and provide individual and group music activities and evaluate outcomes.Document interventions in patient medical records according to standards developed for music therapy documentation.Obtain and maintain an age-appropriate and safe selection and quantity of supplies, equipment, and other materials for the program.CollaborateActively work to integrate music therapy programs with other psychosocial services.Participate actively in departmental rounds and psychosocial rounds to ensure coordinated care for patients and families.Work with other hospital programs to ensure coordination of services.Collaborate with relevant departmental and hospital staff to address patient or systemic problems that arise.Promote ProgramWork with Public Relations and Marketing and other hospital departments to promote the Program internally and externally as appropriate.Participate in the development of a student training program.Orient, train, supervise, and evaluate students and volunteers, as appropriate.Assist with activities to fund the program (grant-writing, support for fundraising activities).Participate in psychosocial research projects relevant to music therapy activities and interventions.Safety
