Your Role on the Team

The position of Physician Assistant in the Department of Surgery requires a highly competent, independent yet team-oriented individual who will be immersed in the management and coordination of all inpatient care for the Trauma and Acute Care Surgery Service. Duties include assessing health needs, planning and evaluating care of all patients on the general surgery services as well as patients in the surgical intensive care unit. The physician assistant will participate with inpatient sign out at the beginning and end of shifts, follow up with the General Surgery teams/residents/attending physicians, and be involved in trauma resuscitations and performing surgical consultations on potential general surgery patients. Responsibilities include care and organization of procedures (including scheduling operations, interventional procedures, etc.), obtaining consults as needed, and discharging patients when appropriate. The incumbent will review critical labs, follow up on results with patients and medical staff, obtain comprehensive medical histories, and perform initial and periodic physical examinations/assessments.

What It Takes to be Successful

Familiarity with UC policies and procedures.Current BLS, ACLS, PALS certification. Within six months of hire, ATLS certification.Must be a current, active, and unrestricted licensed Physician Assistant in the State of California.Ability to obtain UCIMC Allied Health Professional Privileges prior to hire.Knowledge of Windows and MS Office software applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).Must have a current DEA number from the US Drug Enforcement Administration.Bilingual in Spanish and/or Vietnamese.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.HIPAA and other training completion as required by Medical Center Annual TB screening.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the organization.Must possess the skill, knowledge, and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties.Total CompensationIn addition to the salary range listed below, we offer a wealth of benefits to make working at UCI even more rewarding.
