We are seeking a full-time
Senior .NET Software Engineer
in our
Montgomery, TX
location on Garmin's inReach SOS team. Please note that you must
currently
reside in TX. No relocation will be provided.Every day our emergency response software helps coordinate rescues for hikers, boaters, adventurers, motorists, and pilots. Our satellite-based communication devices ensure that these people stay in contact with emergency services and communicate with their loved ones from anywhere on the globe. Check out the

blog for real-life rescues.You’ll work with the latest version of .NET, test with cutting-edge Garmin devices, send messages through satellites, and use modern CI/CD tools to support a web application architecture in our multi-cloud environment.Essential FunctionsServes in a leadership capacity for carrying out software development in C# and frontend technologies.May serve as a Lead Software Engineer for complex software development project designs and/or reviews architected modules and software systems supporting new technology or improving capability/performance of existing functionality.Decomposes functional requirements into well-defined tasks.Researches fundamental problems and implements algorithm solutions that are appropriate.Offers peer technical assessments in areas of expertise, new technologies, and software designs.Participates in project leadership and/or program planning including providing technical input to product development plans and concept documents.Makes substantial contributions toward determination of project goal/objective feasibility and applies good judgment in setting schedules/risk taking.Mentors and/or supervises less experienced Software Engineers (1 & 2).Contributes to advanced technical research on new technologies.Offers process improvement suggestions and authors new procedures as appropriate.Provides reliable solutions to a wide range of difficult problems using sound problem-solving techniques.Supports working hours as part of a rotating schedule to provide on-call support of Garmin’s 24/7 operations.Basic QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or Physics or related field
AND
a minimum of 5 years relevant experience
OR
an equivalent combination of education and experience.Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule).Demonstrated ability to serve as a lead software engineer for a complex software project.Demonstrated capability to offer peer technical assessments in areas of expertise, new technologies, and software designs.Mastery in writing complex software in C#, Java, or similar, as well as relevant experience or training in data structures or object-oriented design methodology.Experienced in relevant software engineering tools: build pipelines, source control, API testing tools, browser dev tools, profilers, debuggers, unit testing frameworks.Experience and desire to work on front-end technologies (Blazor, React, TypeScript, or JavaScript).Experience in Web / Cloud including working with Docker containers.Desired QualificationsOutstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5).Experience in the latest versions of .NET, ideally with web apps/APIs with Entity Framework and a relational database.Proficiency in designing well-architected, maintainable software systems (e.g., design patterns, SOLID principles, self-documenting code).Good analytical skills in decomposing a large project into tasks, in debugging, and in implementing algorithms.Strong sense of ownership.Experience with Terraform to provision cloud infrastructure.A deep mastery of relevant web technology and cloud architecture, especially relating to reliability, security, and performance.JavaScript or TypeScript expertise and experience with modern frameworks.Garmin International is an equal opportunity employer.
