Transportation- Project Engineer

Summary

Assists in developing, planning, coordinating, and performing the engineering work for multiple projects. Starts to perform assignments independently or with lessening degree of supervision with instruction as to the general results expected and with guidance from the Principal or senior engineers on unusual or complex problems. This position requires a broad knowledge of engineering principles and practices. Candidates must be capable of self-sufficiency and working on most aspects of projects.

Essential Functions

Assist with designing roadway projects including coordination with traffic, bridge design, transportation planning, and environmental engineering.

Ability to learn GDOT and/or SCDOT systems, policies, and procedures.

Assist in resolving complex problems (e.g. conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials, difficult coordination requirements).

Communicate and interact with project team members, client representatives, review agencies, and others as appropriate to project.

May communicate with clients to identify the scope of engineering services required.

Performs accurate analysis and design necessary to fulfill the scope of engineering services.

Provides cost estimates as required.

Provides final construction documents conforming to the scope of engineering services for Project Manager's review and approval.

Conducts periodic construction site observations for the project and attends project meetings as required by clients.

May assist with performing monthly billing of clients for work completed.

May assist in preparation of proposals.

Routinely communicates with Principals, Design Group Leaders, Project Managers, CADD technicians, engineering technicians, surveyors, government agencies, contractors, subcontractors, and administrative staff.

Performs other incidental and related duties as required and assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Must be able to work with clients to define and document requirements, address technical concerns and provide project status.

Good communication skills, both written and verbal.

MicroStation, INROADS, and Civil 3D experience preferred.

Computer literate with emphasis on continued development/knowledge of various engineering software programs as appropriate.

Valid Driver's License.

Must be a self-starter.

Education and Experience

BS in Civil Engineering or technical equivalent.

1+ years civil engineering experience or technical equivalent is required.

EIT required, P.E. a plus.

2+ years experience in traffic engineering and/or traffic planning projects.
