Your Role on the Team

The Senior Career Counselor is an experienced, professional position housed within the Samueli School of Engineering's Graduate and Professional Studies. This position leads the design, implementation, and delivery of a career services program with primary emphasis on the Master of Engineering and Master of Embedded and Cyber-physical Systems professional programs. This position utilizes both a theoretical and practical understanding of career development and career outcomes.

The Senior Career Counselor ensures delivery of services to support students' career development and career outcomes. This position works to improve internship / job search competencies through advising students / alumni on a full range of career processes, including individual or group coaching, career-oriented workshops and programming (within and outside M.Eng ProSeminar). This position reviews Curricular Practical Training (CPT) applications and facilitates internship communication. This position is expected to maintain relationships with alumni as well as potential employers, professional associations, and other organizations to establish contacts to meet the career needs of students. In addition, the Senior Career Counselor will establish and maintain a database of connections with students / alumni to track and report on their career trajectories.

The Senior Career Counselor serves as subject matter expert to the Executive Committee and School leadership and for the career services management platform, including platform maintenance, customization and configuration to enhance data collection, data management, analysis, and reporting, including student participation in career activities and employment outcomes. This position provides job market expertise through ongoing research, professional development, and interactions with students, alumni and industry professionals; researches and evaluates career development tools and technologies, and updates career and educational resources. This person is an enthusiastic member of the program staff team who is dedicated to growing and enhancing services for the students.

The Senior Career Counselor partners with the Engineering Development team on the referral of candidates for job openings and manages multifaceted relationships with staff, faculty, alumni, and students. The position is expected to take an active role in local, regional, or national professional associations and organizations in order to build and enhance the reputation of the school and the programs in the corporate community.

The Senior Career Counselor will help coordinate the capstone projects in conjunction with the Capstone Project instructors and corporate community. This position may serve as backup to the existing team in other aspects of program management as needed. The Senior Career Counselor will be an integral part in the Graduate and Professional Studies team. This position will also be responsible for data collection to be used for marketing materials and reports to multiple audiences. The Senior Career Counselor will be an integral part of various teams for the professional master's programs.

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $63,800- $84,000.00 (Annual).

Required:Strong knowledge of career development theories, adult development theory, counseling process, career coaching techniques, career decision making, learning styles, and job search techniques. Thorough knowledge of needs assessment theory, processes, and practice; workshop and program design. Knowledge of UC programs, career services, employer, alumni, and faculty needs and expectations, recruiting and staffing methods, and employment trends. Ability to design and modify computer applications to meet program needs, problem identification, presentation skills, verbal communication, written communication, and organization skills. Ability to work with people from diverse cultures. Strong interpersonal skills are required to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a variety of clients at all levels including corporate executives, alumni, faculty, staff, students and professionals from other institutions and/or professional associations. Demonstrated ability to work in a team with cross-functional team leadership experience preferred. Ability to motivate team members and garner support and cooperation to achieve desired outcomes.Advanced degree in related area3-5 years Career development theories, adult development theory, counseling process, career coaching techniques, career decision making, learning styles, and job search techniques.

Preferred:Extensive knowledge of the entry-level Engineering employment market and industry hiring practices. Ability to think strategically, develop and execute operational plans, and manage multiple projects and priorities. Ability to work under pressure, with the flexibility to respond to changing priorities and fluctuating workloads. Analytical and written skills sufficient to research and develop statistical reports and other publications required. Skills in organizing work, defining tasks, prioritizing assignments, and following through on all projects independently.
