Essential Functions/Responsibilities:Demonstrates technical and operational expertiseInterprets quality control results and instrument functionCompletes scheduled preventive maintenance dutiesProvides assistance and guidance involving repairs, validations, and function checksOrganizes, prioritizes, executes and interprets workload. Actively assists coworkers with interpretations and troubleshooting and possible follow-up corrective actionParticipates in quality assurance (QA). Attends and participates in QA laboratory meetings as requested.Resource management: Assists and monitors necessary supplies and kit availability for patient testing. Responsible for following manufacturer's recommended instructions for utilizing testing material and kits. Assists with reagent orders from vendors.Technical and teaching assistance: Provides operational training for coworkers involving manual, automated, and organizational skills for patient testing. Provides knowledge acquired thru experience and training to assist new hires and current coworkersBe available and help Phlebotomy services draw blood from patients in the Out-Patient area located in the laboratory.Work weekend shifts on a normal rotationPractices good communication skills with internal and external customers.a. Practices FOCUS Values and principles with all customersb. Communicates hand-off details to coworkers at shift changec. Maintains composure and professionalism involving conflicts with internal and external customers.Unusual conditions/conflictsa. Organizes and adapts to changes in workflow due to instrumentation or computer downtimesb. Provides solutions and technical support to aid in delivery of patient careAssures patient care in unusual conditions/conflicts is not compromised.Nonessential functions are those tasks, duties, and responsibilities that are not critical to the performance of the job.General cleaning duties, wiping counters, dusting, reorganization of spacesDistributing and stocking suppliesFiling paperwork and reportsDevelopment & Patient EducationContinues professional development and involvement in professional activities that enhance the medical laboratory practice by sharing knowledge through networking and research.Assess departmental needs and communicate possible needs to the Supervisor. Participates in process improvement projects.Demonstrates knowledge that patient and workplace safety is a priority by preventing errors, accidents and infections and reporting potential or actual concerns immediately.Basic UPH Performance CriteriaDemonstrates the UnityPoint Health FOCUS Values and Standards of Behaviors as well as adheres to policies and procedures and safety guidelines.Demonstrates ability to meet business needs of department with regular, reliable attendance.Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, JCAHO, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff. Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.Qualifications
Minimum RequirementsIdentify items that are minimally required to perform the essential functions of this position.Preferred or SpecializedNot required to perform the essential functions of the position.Education:Graduate of accredited MLT ProgramMLT Degree or CertificationExperience:Will train a graduate of the school.Prefer one (1) year of hospital clinical experience or demonstrated clinical efficiency.License(s)/Certification(s):Current ASCP or Certification in good standing to practice as a Medical Laboratory TechnicianKnowledge/Skills/Abilities:Writes, reads, comprehends and speaks fluent English.Multicultural sensitivity.Microsoft Office - basic computer skills.Customer/patient focused.Critical thinking skills using independent judgment in making decisions.Other:
Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.Work may occasionally require travel to other UPH facilities. May drive a UPH vehicle, rental or own vehicle.Area of Interest:
