Discussed during interviewPosition Summary:Monmouth University is seeking applications for a Clinical Counselor in Counseling and Prevention Services. The candidate would be expected to: provide direct clinical counseling services to students; use clinical data to conceptualize the care and treatment for the student; manage a dynamic schedule of clinical and administrative tasks; make appropriate referrals, as needed, in consultation with the Director; host and implement outreach and community education events tailored to the needs of students; assist the Director in the coordination of critical interventions during emergent situations on campus; collaborate with campus constituents and off-campus providers and agencies, as needed; support other Divisional initiatives of Student Life and Leadership Engagement.This is a 36-week position.This is an in-person, on-campus, non-remote position.A complete list of job duties is available at

Basic Knowledge of MS Word 2016, Basic Knowledge of MS Excel 2016, Must be able to treat confidential and sensitive information appropriatelyOther Requirements:Master’s degree in counseling, clinical psychology, clinical social work, or a related field.Licensed or license-eligible for practice as a psychologist, clinical social worker, clinical alcohol and drug counselor, or professional or associate counselor in the State of New Jersey [Psychologist, LCSW, LCADC, LPC, LAC, etc.].Ability to maintain precise record-keeping and confidential documentation of counseling sessions and contacts.Direct experience in diagnosis, assessment, and treatment of clinical disorders within DSM-5 criteria, including, but not limited to, mood, anxiety, stress, and substance use disorders.Experience in crisis intervention and short-term psychotherapy with young adults.Ability to interact with students and adapt work style to small and large groups.Ability to work independently in the therapeutic relationship while balancing a strong team orientation and systems approach to short-term treatment planning and coordination of services and intervention.Demonstrate strong organizational, educational, and presentation skills.Preferred Qualifications:Licensed for independent practice as a psychologist, clinical social worker, clinical alcohol and drug counselor, or professional counselor in the State of New Jersey [Psychologist, LCSW, LCADC, or LPC].Posting Date:

Assist students in personal growth and development through clinical counseling and psycho-educational programming.Utilize clinical interviews and other metrics and interventions to assess the scope of needs for students seeking support for mental health and/or substance use concerns.Provide time-limited counseling to assist students in reducing symptom severity of mild to moderate general mental health and substance use concerns.Refer students who exceed the scope of service to off-campus providers/agencies.Provide clinical coverage as part of the departmental “On Call” duty rotation to field and manage emergencies that may occur after-hours and on weekends when the office is closed.Provide appropriate preliminary mental health assessment of students and referral information as needed in consultation with the Director.Provide immediate crisis intervention and assist the Director in coordinating critical intervention during emergencies on campus.Provide direct counseling services to students on an individual and group basis.Educate the campus community about general mental health and substance use and promote help-seeking behavior.Use a holistic wellness model to guide the conceptualization and treatment of a student’s mental health and/or substance use needs.Supervise clinical graduate-level trainees working/volunteering in the department.Participate in the clinical training program of graduate-level trainees working/volunteering in CPS, as coordinated by the Director or their designee.Develop and conduct training sessions for various departmental and University-wide training programs.Participate in New Student Orientation and other Student Engagement initiatives as identified by the Director.Provide clinical consultations for students referred to counseling due to behavior and/or substance use concerns.Collaborate with student groups, faculty, and other departments to identify and implement mental health and substance prevention strategies.Other duties as assigned.Supplemental Questions
