The Opportunity
We are looking for a Senior Water Quality Modeler to join our team. In this position, you would help lead and direct water quality modelling and assessment work, primarily in the Canadian mining sector. The position is based in western Canada, with the option of you siting in one of our Vancouver, Calgary or Edmonton offices. You would be joining a team consisting of more than 20 other water quality scientists and engineers with an established reputation for delivering quality work.
The job will involve overseeing staff working to complete large-scale projects, many of which will involve interactions with other disciplines. Work products will include models, reports, regulatory submissions and other similar deliverables, as well as responding to client, regulatory and stakeholder inquires, questions and comments. You may also appear as an expert witness before regulatory boards and participate as an expert witness in other similar processes.

What you can expect to do here:
- Developing and reviewing proposed scopes of work, schedules and budgets related to the completion of water quality and environmental assessment projects
- Working with others to manage individual and the overall team workload, as well as working with others to identify staffing lists for each project
- Developing, directing, and overseeing the execution of:
o Model development, calibration, and validation
o Technical reports, memorandum, presentations, and other project deliverables - Overseeing project plans and assessment approaches
- Overseeing multiple projects within scope/budget/schedule expectations, with responsibility for models and other project deliverables meetings expectations for quality
- Managing, analyzing, and interpreting measured and modelled data, and providing oversight and quality control for data collection, management, and analysis
- Working with multi-disciplinary project teams to acquire environmental permits, water licences, and approvals from regulatory agencies
- Supervising, training, and mentoring junior and intermediate staff to develop their skill sets including technical skills, project experience, and general consulting and decision-making skills
- Actively promoting a culture of health and safety
- Taking an active role in developing and maintaining client relationships and business development opportunities
- Project plans and assessment approaches
What you'll bring to WSP:
- A university degree (M.Sc. or higher preferred) in Chemistry, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or similar
- Minimum of 10 years of experience or equivalent
- Proven experience in the field of water quality modelling, with knowledge of more than one software modelling package
- Demonstrated experience in managing teams and delivering work products in a timely fashion, ideally within a consulting environment
- Previous experience in dealing with regulatory processes
- Excellent technical writing and communication skills
- Demonstrated project management and technical skills
