Radiation Therapist Lead-Days

Works under the leadership of the Manager and Medical Director to provide, to patients of all ages, patient care and care support processes of radiation treatments, patient education, comfort/pain management, psychosocial management, wound/skin management and documentation in as safe, timely, accurate and cost effective manner.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Administers daily radiation treatments and perform simulations as prescribed by the radiation oncologist.
  • Performs quality assurance testing on linear accelerator to ensure accurate treatments.
  • Reviews patient charts and updates as needed to keep current. Monitors patients and reports changes to others. Reviews and verifies all charges for services rendered.
  • Monitors patient and provides assistance as necessary to facilitate comfort during patient treatments. Documents all treatments, observations and changes in patient status
  • Maintains schedule and treatment room flow to ensure all patients are treated in a timely manner. Prepares room and equipment to meet specific treatment requirements of each patient.
  • Explains procedure to patient, means of communication during treatment and procedure to follow if emergency arises during treatment.
  • Participates in port film imaging and monitors source to skin distances daily for changes for patient quality assurance purposes.
  • Maintains patient markings so as to enhance treatment reproducibility.
  • Obtains diode reading for each field on each patient for beam quality assurance.
  • Performs other duties consistent with purpose of job as directed.
  • Assists in quality control and performance improvement activities.
  • Contributes to performance feedback, hiring decisions.
  • Ensures standards are met (quality, timeliness, customer service, etc.).
  • Evaluates and tests new procedures/processes.
  • Orients and/or trains new staff.
  • Problem solving capabilities.
  • Subject matter expert/technical leadership.
  • Work flow/distribution of work.
  • Assists in assuring compliance with all regulatory and other agency requirements, laws, and statutes pertaining to the operation of the department.


QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

  • Work requires the knowledge acquired through the completion of an accredited radiation therapy and/or completion of an accredited radiologic technology program.
  • Registered or registry-eligible by the ARRT.
  • BLS certification required. Certification must be issued directly by the American Heart Association (AHA), American Red Cross (ARC), or Canadian equivalent.
  • Three years of experience as a Radiation Therapist.
