Manage and participate in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and priorities of assigned programs and functions.Keep cost records of work performed and make cost estimates as requested.Select, train, schedule, motivate, and evaluate event staff; provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline and termination procedures.Participate in the development and administration of the Event Services section of the budget; forecast additional funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies; direct, monitor, and approve all department expenditures; implement adjustments as necessary.Provide responsible staff assistance to the General Manager; prepare and present reports and other related correspondence.Maintain policies and procedures as needed.Oversee the set-up and take-down of events as well as housekeeping services.Maintain Hazardous Materials Communication Program, material safety data sheets, and required records.Verify the processing of employee time sheets.Assist in the development and implementation of the Capital Improvement Budget and recommendations for the facility.Attend internal meetings representing the event services department and represent the facility at external meetings as deemed necessary.Assist in creating, organizing, and executing training for all UVCC staff.Apply administrative and departmental policies and procedures.Communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.Plan, organize, and assign all day-to-day work assignments for event managers, AV Manager, Operations Manager, and other event services department personnel.Meet with user groups to determine user needs and to explain facility capabilities and policies.Prepare, confirm, and issue event resumes, diagrams, and estimates for staff and clients.Take part in reviewing and approving final billing to clients prior to release of invoice.Assume management responsibility for all services and activities of the Events Department, including the planning and directing of all facility events.Respond to and resolve difficult and sensitive inquiries and complaints.Make immediate decisions and communicate with users of the facility in an emergency situation.Maintain open communication between clients, contractors, employees, and the public by providing technical facility information and establishing an effective rapport.Conduct Production Meetings as well as department meetings ensuring smooth coordination of activities.Research, review, and recommend equipment, materials, and supplies required in providing event services and planning.Work with the Operations Manager to schedule and track labor, labor allocations, building supplies, and other necessary resources.Set and maintain expectation levels for facility cleanliness and upkeep.Perform related duties and responsibilities as required and assist the General Manager as needed.Qualifications:

Minimum four years' experience at a supervisory level with a convention center or multi-purpose facility or equivalent position.College degree with an emphasis in business, recreation management, facilities management, event management, or related fields preferred. Additional years' experience may serve as a substitute for education.Ability to demonstrate supervisory and leadership skills and a thorough knowledge of convention planning and related activities.Computer skills in Microsoft Office applications.Experience in Event Management Software such as EBMS, CC Breeze, Concentrics, as well as CAD.Graduate of IAVM's Venue Management School at Oglebay preferred.Ability to work nights, weekends, and select holidays, in addition to traditional business hours.Strong verbal and written communication skills in the English language.Possession of a Driver's License issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia.
