Oct 18, 2024 at 11:59 PM Eastern TimeDescriptionThe Department of Microbiology and Immunology in the Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the area of virology, including molecular virology, viral pathogenesis, emerging viral pathogens, and animal models of viral disease. The position will be part of a State University of New York Empire Innovation Program that seeks to build cross-disciplinary collaborations to advance disease prevention and treatment. Applicants incorporating antiviral drug development or novel therapeutic approaches against viral infections are particularly encouraged to apply. Successful applicants are expected to establish and maintain an extramurally funded research program and actively participate in the teaching and service missions within the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at Stony Brook University. The Department is home to two graduate programs and two NIH-funded training grants, providing opportunities for graduate student and postdoctoral fellow mentoring and support. Stony Brook University maintains state-of-the-art core facilities that support areas including microscopy and animal imaging, flow cytometry, RNA and single cell sequencing, genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, bioinformatics, and animal maintenance. A state-of-the art Laboratory for Comparative Medicine provides facilities for BSL3 and animal BSL3 research. The dynamic intellectual environment includes the Stony Brook University tertiary care Hospital and Cancer Center, nearby Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, a VA Hospital and Research Center, and Brookhaven National Laboratory research facilities.The Department provides a collaborative and supportive mentoring environment to foster faculty success and SBU provides additional opportunities for professional development to assist faculty in meeting their goals.
