Environmental Department Manager | PWS Seller/Doer

Position : Environmental Department ManagerLocation : Cleveland Office, OhioOverview: We are seeking an experienced Environmental Department Manager to lead our Cleveland office's environmental team. This role involves coordinating staff and overseeing environmental permitting and planning for private, public, and utility projects across Ohio.Required Qualifications :Bachelor's or Master's degree in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, Botany, Forestry, Wildlife, Fisheries, Natural Resources, Wetland Science, or a related field. A Master's or advanced degree is preferred.A minimum of 15 years of relevant post-degree experience, including wetland delineations and permitting.Strong organizational skills and proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, and PowerPoint.Exceptional technical writing and communication abilities.Proficiency with various GPS equipment and electronic data collection methods.Extensive experience with federal and state wetland and environmental permitting, including 401 Water Quality Certification and Section 404 of the Clean Water Act within Ohio.Solid understanding of the U.S. Endangered Species Act and National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).Established relationships with local, state, and/or federal agencies.Proven experience in supervising and managing staff.Ability to effectively interact with clients, regulatory agencies, and team members in the field.Commitment to mentoring and developing less experienced staff.A positive, team-oriented attitude with a readiness to engage in year-round fieldwork.Valid Ohio Driver's License and an insurable driving record.Key Responsibilities :Oversee environmental field and office investigations.Lead and coordinate in-office staff and external consultants to ensure successful project delivery.Prepare proposals and maintain strong client relationships.Advise engineering teams on permitting and regulatory impacts related to infrastructure projects.Operate GPS equipment and manage the use of GIS mapping for permitting and other environmental documentation.Train and mentor staff on plant identification, soil characterization, and hydrologic indicators.Manage wetland delineations and environmental assessments in accordance with the USACE 1987 Manual and any necessary addendums.Prepare permit applications and compile field data reports to support permitting efforts.Preferred Qualifications :Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS) certification, or the ability to obtain it within 6 months of hire.ODOT Prequalification status in Ecological Surveys, Environmental Document Preparation (CE), Stream & Wetland Mitigation, and Waterway Permits, or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.Experience conducting other biological wildlife surveys.Familiarity with environmental grant funding sources and the ability to write grant proposals.
