Position SummaryMembership Specialists actively work to develop and increase girl and adult membership, promote the image of Girl Scouting in the community, increase visibility of Girl Scouting and broaden the base for community support. They serve as the primary point of contact for current Girl Scout Heart of Michigan volunteers and external audiences in assigned geographic region with a focus on retainment of current members and recruitment of new members. This individual will use their expertise of the assigned geographic territory to strategically identify prospects, make effective presentations and grow our membership and base of support.

Roles and ResponsibilitiesOversee membership in assigned territories.Office will be located out of the Saginaw Regional Center.Function as a positive and cooperative member of the Membership Team and Heart of Michigan staff, sharing resources and expertise.Assist with development and implementation of recruitment, retention, and recognition strategies for girls and adult members in all segments of the population based on research and analysis of community demographics and needs while continually analyzing progress towards benchmarks and goals.Supervise volunteers to deliver Girl Scout programs to adults and girls within assigned jurisdiction.Work with team to assist in setting membership goals and cultivate volunteers to meet those goals.Interpret and promote Girl Scouting in the community to enhance the role and image of Girl Scouting, foster interest in troop sponsorship, increase visibility, and attract new girl and adult members.Work with school administration, teachers, and community partners to increase girl participation within Girl Scouts, developing new ways of serving girls.Recruit and retain girl and adult members that reflect the diversity of the area served and the council jurisdiction; work with volunteers to ensure that all schools have recruitment opportunities, and that membership is growing annually.Public speaking at meetings with community organizations and volunteers.Assure the delivery of support service to Service Unit Teams and all volunteers.Appoint, supervise, and support volunteer Service Unit Managers in assigned areas. Serve as the Service Unit Manager if the position is vacant.Conduct yearly Service Unit evaluations with appropriate volunteers.Provide high-level customer service, which includes returning calls and emails, addressing and closing cases, following up on tasks, and documenting all within Salesforce within 8 business hours.Participate and assist Team Lead with the development and implementation of council action plans and budgets.Provide active support for the council plan of action by serving as recruitment and staff support for fundraising and Product Program in designated area(s).Participate in activities within the community to further the understanding and advancement of Girl Scouting.Frequent travel within the council to various meeting locations with staff and volunteers.Support and promote girl/troop attendance at overnight and day camps.Support the council fundraising goals.Other duties as assigned.

Education and ExperienceBachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a related field.Effective leadership skills.Proven track record of previous success in meeting quantifiable goals.Ability to recruit, retain, and supervise adult volunteers and girls.Excellent decision-making, customer service, and human relation skills a must.Experience and sensitivity in working with diverse volunteers.Experience in community organizing.Proven success with strategic planning and project management.

Knowledge/Skills/AbilitiesMust have own transportation and the ability to travel within the jurisdiction.Work within a flexible schedule; will work evening and weekend hours.Excellent oral and written communication skills with public speaking skills/experience preferred.Ability to manage time, work independently and manage multiple priorities.Exceptional and accurate computer skills in Microsoft Office including the ability to manipulate data and create spreadsheets.Flexible and team-oriented.Experience with volunteer organizations with a knowledge of Girl Scouting preferred.Strong human relations, problem-solving, and conflict management skills required both in person and on the telephone when speaking with volunteers, staff, and organizations throughout the community served.Willing to become a member of Girl Scouts of USA.Able to lift and/or manipulate up to 25 pounds.

Work ScheduleOffices are open Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.Position will work a variable schedule.Position requires candidates to work many evenings and weekends.

TravelMust have own transportation and the ability to travel within the jurisdiction. Frequent travel within the council to various meeting locations with staff and volunteers. Travel is primarily during the business day and evening hours.
