Cornell University Veterinary Specialists (CUVS) is seeking a Hospital Administrator. The Hospital Administrator (HA) is a mission-critical senior leadership position. Reporting directly to the President/Chief Medical Officer (CMO), the HA is responsible for the overall operational, administrative and non-medical management of the hospital and is actively involved in overall CUVS strategy. The HA has responsibility for the fiscal performance of the hospital, supervises and mentors directors and managers and, together with the President/CMO, owns the maintenance of a positive, engaged and high performing culture. It is the goal that this position evolves into a Chief Operating Officer position.CUVS is a for-profit subsidiary of, and wholly owned by, Cornell University. Our mission is to bring together the best of academic practice with the best of private practice to provide outstanding medical care and service, as well as education and discovery.Responsibilities: SummaryOperations & AdministrativeProvide leadership and oversight of non-clinical hospital administrative functions including client services, finance and billing, human resources, facilities, IT, purchasing and marketing; manage directors/managers in these areas.Provide administrative strategic and operational support to the CMO and the Nursing Director for clinical, academic and teaching functions.Develop and implement systems, policies and procedures to support effective and efficient hospital operations.Oversee and manage the Director of Operations and Client Services Manager to ensure that the hospital provides superior service in all interactions.Plan, coordinate and manage renovations and relocations.Act as liaison to Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine with respect to operations and non-clinical functions.FinancialCollaborate with the President/CMO and Finance Controller to provide financial strategic direction.Responsible for the development, implementation and monitoring of the annual budget, and monitoring and managing performance against the budget.Manage financial operations, including: fee structures, charge capture, billing and receivables, compensation and benefits, procurement, and operational expenses.Oversee capital planning, expenditures and cost-benefit analyses.Strategic LeadershipPartner with the President/CMO and hospital Leadership in charting the organization’s course in response to developing needs, challenges and opportunities.Recommend and implement long-range plans that support the hospital's philosophy and general objectives.Provide short- and long-range planning with respect to financial and operating performance, asset management, client services, IT systems, facilities and other support operations.Collaborate with the Nursing Director and HR leadership to codify and maintain optimal staffing levels, ensure optimization and standardization across shifts and departments, expand staff orientation, training and integration, and evolve career roadmaps.Ensure attainment of hospital objectives through the selection, development, motivation, and evaluation of senior hospital staff.Recommend and oversee hospital policy positions concerning legislation, government administrative policies, and other policy matters.SupervisionPromote and exemplify the vision, core values and culture of CUVS.Maintain and exemplify a culture of close collaboration and partnership between hospital leadership/administration and doctors/clinical staff.Provide oversight to staff and contractors within administration, finance, billing/collections, marketing, legal, purchasing, IT, facilities and HR. Degree or certification in Veterinary Practice Management preferred. Master's degree in hospital administration, health or business a plus.At least five years’ experience as a Hospital Administrator or equivalent position in a veterinary specialty hospital/s.Knowledge of the higher financial aspects of a private specialty hospital, including business structure, financial indicators and benchmarks, expense management and improving profitability.Proven expertise in managing and maximizing client experience and a high-performing team.
