Overview:Performs highly responsible administrative and managerial work as Director of the Investigations Department; directs, plans, organizes and evaluates Investigations programs and staff through subordinate management personnel; implements and establishes departmental policies and procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Directs, plans, organizes and evaluates through subordinate management personnel the activities of the various Districts and special units of the Investigations Department engaged in the enforcement of appropriate portions of the Illinois Vehicle Code in cooperation with other State and local law enforcement organizations in the State of Illinois.

Sets standards and objectives for uniformed personnel to provide enhanced enforcement services; keeps abreast of new developments in the law enforcement field and implements changes to improve the organization.

Directs public relations, personnel management and budgetary management functions for the Department.

Meets with and works with subordinate management staff and/or management staff of other departments and State, Federal and local law enforcement agencies to coordinate program activities and resolve administrative and operational problems.

Receives and directs the conduct of special, sensitive or controversial investigations including internal matters.

Implements and formulates policies and procedures for the Department.

Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Specific Skills:

Experience with Microsoft Office, including in particular Outlook, Word and Excel.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required.

Knowledge of the Illinois Vehicle Code.

Knowledge of best practices for physical security and emergency preparedness and response.

Ability to maintain satisfactory working relationships and communicate effectively with all levels of staff, other law enforcement agencies, and the general public.

Requires possession of a valid Illinois driver’s license and the ability to travel throughout the State to various district offices.

Requires the ability to lift, carry up to 90 lbs and push/pull 25-50 lbs.

Education and Work Experience:Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to the completion of four (4) years of college AND eight (8) years experience in law enforcement as a sworn law enforcement officer, including at least four (4) years experience supervising a large scale division or department.
