Assist with detailed design and develop software code for web-based applications, services and tools that support our scientific customers.Analyze run-time modules for functional and performance enhancements.Work with cross functional teams comprised of software engineers, software architects, product managers and system administrators to implement the best solution.Identify application service dependencies and risks as they relate to the cloud environment.Support SQL runqueries, imports and backups.Understand database schemas that represent and support business processes.Troubleshoot and solve complex problems.Qualifications:
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Computer Science field or equivalent work related experience.Strong skills and personality to communicate effectively.Working knowledge of earth science, Geospatial products, GIS applications and metadata products and standards.Past member of a highly functioning Agile team.Fundamental understanding of web services and related best practices.Working understanding of object-oriented concepts and designs.Knowledge of Linux command line.Java server-side development experience on Linux/Apache and Tomcat.Able to develop, maintain and document REST and SOAP.Hands-on experience with relational databases, specifically PostgreSQL.Experience developing code in a popular Java IDE, i.e. Eclipse/others.Knowledge of Java build systems, i.e. Subversion, Git, Maven and ANT.Automation & scripting of data ingestion and batch processing.Effective written and verbal communication skills.A strong desire and aptitude to learn and apply new skills.
