Want to be part of the team building the finest property, casualty and specialty lines insurance company in the world?Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance Company has an exciting opportunity for a Construction Casualty Underwriter to join our Midwest/Central Region team based out of our Chicago or Houston office locations.We are looking for a dedicated, forward thinking, and passionate individual who is determined on growing their knowledge and experience working in insurance. The ideal candidate should be eager to learn new products and capable of working independently and with teammates across all disciplines within the organization including: underwriting, claims, loss control, and legal.This role focuses on working in the large Construction account space. Underwriters gain access to a highly evolving and dynamic atmosphere that involves exposure to major influencers in the insurance and construction fields. This role is great fit for an individual looking to drive growth in an assigned region. Your broker relationships are key to your success. By providing great service to brokers, you will also aim to generate new business and build new relationships.Day to Day Responsibilities:Expand and develop new business opportunities through production and marketing calls with brokers and clients.Market to distribution channels, prequalify new business, and utilize underwriting acumen to select sound casualty risks.Duties & Responsibilities:Develop and grow the Construction Casualty book of business which includes primary, lead umbrella, and excess on both practice and project business. Majority of the book is lead umbrella.Establish, develop, and expand broker and customer relationships in the Midwest/Central Region.Work closely with loss control, claims, and legal teams to evaluate risk and provide solutions to customers.Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, multi-task, and make quick decisions while maintaining underwriting integrity.Travel up to 20% of the time.Qualifications, Skills, & Experience:Experienced Underwriter with 5 to 15 years Casualty underwriting experience (Prior Construction Underwriting Experience a Plus).Existing broker & customer relationships.Ability to work within a fast-paced, customer-focused & team environment.Someone with passion, integrity, and technical skills.
