Odin
Senior Legal Counsel (Funds)
Odin, New London, Indiana, United States,
Odin helps people to raise and deploy capital seamlessly
We envision a world where people can vote with their money on what the future looks like, and participate in creating it.
We’re starting by making it radically easier for anyone, anywhere, to launch & run an angel syndicate or venture firm.
We handle all the “plumbing” through one seamless platform - everything from setting up the legal structure for an investment vehicle through to processing payments.
We’re already trusted by over 5,000 VCs, angels and founders, and we are just getting started.
Responsibilities
Lead the structuring and establishment of SPVs & funds in multiple jurisdictions, ensuring optimal legal structures, tax efficiency and regulatory compliance
Collaborate closely with the product and technology teams on new product releases, providing insights from a legal perspective
Coordinate and work closely with external counsel, finance, and operational teams on all fund formation and investment-related activities
Oversee our regulatory responsibilities and interactions with the regulator in multiple jurisdictions
Lead in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts with lawyers
Take ownership of implementing internal legal policies and operations to manage risk and ensure best practices in regulatory standards
Own and maintain all compliance-related policies and procedures, ensuring Odin is compliant across all jurisdictions
This is our first legal hire—a rare opportunity to build a function from scratch in a founding role within a fast-paced startup backed by world-leading investors. You'll join a high-performing team and make a significant impact with a clear pathway for growth and the opportunity to shape our company's legal landscape.
Your Qualities
You're an intellectually curious problem solver. Your strong desire to understand complex issues deeply means you come up with creative solutions to legal and regulatory problems by diving deep and thinking from first principles
You are fiercely competitive. You have incredible determination and perseverance. You take obstacles in your stride
You're laser-focused on whatever drives the biggest impact, wherever you work
You move fast. However, while acting with urgency is important, you understand the need for balance in a legal role. You can prioritise speed while ensuring thoroughness and precision
You are an excellent communicator with a strong ability to articulate technical concepts to a non-technical audience clearly and understandably, translating legalese into plain English
You possess excellent attention to detail, are rigorously diligent, and highly organised
You're ambitious and committed to excellence. You know that building something great requires hard work and time, but to you, it's all worth it
You can work under pressure in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment
You have excellent strategic thinking abilities, solid judgment, and the willingness to work with business partners
You can make decisions grounded in a practical application of the law, the company's technology, and our business goals
Your Experience
Must-Have
You have 2-5 years of PQE with deep knowledge of fund structuring and/or corporate law, preferably in the UK
Nice-to-Have
You have experience in Private Equity, Venture Capital, Wealth Management, or a fast-paced FinTech or Financial Services start-up. Bonus points if you have experience in both
Strong knowledge of the UK and EU regulatory environments for funds and/or SPVs
You have a strong willingness to learn about compliance in the financial services sector, if not prior experience
Working at Odin
We encourage a balanced way of working. We’re a fast-growing startup building something very ambitious, and we expect you to work hard, and relish this challenge. However, we also offer flexibility, and we support your life outside of work so you can bring your best to the table.
Our benefits include:
An equity option package so you can benefit from our success
(you need skin in the game!)
We’re remote-first, so you can work from home full-time, with no obligation to use the office or attend in-person socials
(we value spending time together, but don’t make it mandatory)
Choose your own laptop and receive an additional £1000 to spend on your home-tech setup, ensuring you have the right tools for the job
Enjoy a £1000 yearly allowance for learning and wellness initiatives of your choosing (including gym membership). We prioritise self-care to ensure you bring your best self to work
Receive your own expense card, eliminating out-of-pocket spending for work items and tools that matter
Private health insurance to ensure your health isn’t compromised, allowing you to do your best work
Accessibility Adjustments
We’re committed to removing invisible barriers. If there are any adjustments we can make to better support you, please let us know when you apply.
At Odin, we truly value the power of diversity and inclusion. We warmly invite applications from individuals of every gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, religion, civil or family status, age, disability, and anything else that makes you who you are. Your walk of life, background and experience brings a unique perspective that matters to us, as it helps us create products that resonate with and serve everyone.
